I don’t normal post this sort of thing but……

While we all know small businesses, like mine and thousands others have been forced to close our doors, but I just wonder if people really know the affect we are feeling?

200+ days I have had my salon closed, I have been told that the occupation I have lived, loved and breathed for 18 years, well that’s not essential so now must close, while I understand we are not considered essential, making a livelyhood is essential, having a roof over my family’s head is essential, feeding my family is essential, my mental health is essential at what point will this be heard and truely understood and how do we get through this?

Small businesses are now running on fumes, pumping everything we have (money wise and mentally) into our businesses just to have the slightest chance that when this is all over we may still exist and still thrive within the community you love but hope is fading fast for many with every week that ticks over! And watching people lay down their swords around me and with no other option but to close businesses is just soul crashing!

Laying in bed last night because for the 3rd night in a row I couldn’t sleep and I was thinking about the types of small business that have been closed the longest and literally subject to the no work rule and I couldn’t help but notice most of them are female or family owned dominated industries…. Beauty, hair, photography, cleaners, events industry and the list goes on. And I can’t help but wonder what effect this will have on my daughter as she grows up?

We have so many questions that can’t be answered our paths are not clear and we are fighting our way out as we always do because we are strong and small business has always and will always be the backbone of our community I don’t know how to change this situation we are currently in, I do ask when you are working from home, schooling the kids from home or sitting at the job site and you have a minute take some time to google small businesses around you and take note, so that when this is all over and if they have made it through you can go and support them, be kind to them and help us to find our feet and find the light again so we may shine once again!

I just want to highlight how hard current situations are for people as I question if people are truely understanding what the meaning of “lock down” is for some…..
