WHERE IT ALL STARTS⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🧱Our epidermis is made up of a whooooole bunch of these guys, all sitting tightly packed together like bricks, forming the strong physical barrier that protects our insides from the outside.

🤰🏻In the basement of the epidermis we have a layer of Basal skin cells. They are put there when we are being put together in our mothers womb & stay there creating brand new skin cells constantly through our whole life.

The Basal cell creates a copy of itself over & over & naturally those new cells get pushed up until they reach the surface of our skin & shed off to become house dust.

So, as you can imagine, the health of these Basal cells has a lot to do with how your skin looks on the surface.

A Basal cell can only create a new cell with what it has available. If it is a dehydrated & malnourished sultana-like cell - that’s exactly what its duplicate cells will look & behave like. Pretty bloody poorly.

🍇So, what do our Basal cells need to create the most healthy new cells possible?
• 💧Water for healthy cytoplasm
• 🐟Omega 3 for a healthy cell membrane
• 🥕Vitamin A for a healthy nucleus (brain of the cell)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The water & EFA’s that make up the cell cytoplasm & membrane contribute significantly to our Acid Mantle which is our chemical barrier that lays like mortar between the skin cells in the very upper layer of the Epidermis.

Of course there are many other factors that may influence the health and appearance of the skin, but if you can get the ESSENTIAL ingredients mentioned above to the cells, the skin will be armed to do exactly what it is there to do… & GLOW while it does it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you want to get your skin functioning at it’s best by feeding it the ingredients it needs - contact me for a Skin Consultation 🔍📝

A little change to the studio schedule 🌿

I’ve had a few lovely clients tell me they’d love to come in, but Thursdays and Fridays just don’t work around their work commitments.

So I thought I’d listen! 🤎

From 26 October, I’ll be opening the studio every second Monday through until Christmas, as a little trial to see whether Monday appointments make it easier for more of you to find time for your skin (and yourself).

If Mondays have been the day you’ve been wishing I was open, this is for you!

Appointments are available by message, as usual.

And if Thursdays and Fridays are your preferred days, nothing is changing there — they’ll remain my regular studio days.

Let’s see how this little experiment goes… 🌿

With an average thickness of a sheet of paper, the Epidermal layer of your skin is your first physical line of defence against the outside world

🧱Skin cells are like bricks, overlapping & creating a physical barrier. The Epidermis can be broken down into several layers, including the Basal layer at the deepest level of the Epidermis, and the Stratum Corneum which is the outermost layer that we see when we look in the mirror.

🍇At the base of the Epidermis we have our Basal cells which actually took up residence there when we were being created in our mother’s womb. For our whole life, these Basal cells in the basement of the Epidermis are constantly creating brand new skin cells & pushing these new cells upward through the layers of the Epidermis until they eventually shed off & become house dust

✨This constant turnover of cells means we have endless opportunities to create a healthier skin✨

As these new cells move up through the epidermis towards the outside world, their role in protecting us changes, as does their structure.

🛡Every phase of this cell life cycle is key to creating a healthy skin on the surface (what we see when we look in the mirror) & keeping our body safe from the outside world

🤒Basal cells can only create copies of themselves. If they’re in poor health, every cell they produce will also be unhealthy & not able to fulfil its role is creating a healthy barrier at the end of their life cycle⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

💧So how do we ensure our Mother cells are as healthy as can be? Like every cell in our body, they need to be fed with nutrients, oxygen, water & Essential Fatty Acids!

🥑All of these vital ingredients are delivered to the Basal cells by a network of blood vessels found just below the Epidermis, in the Dermis

🥕These vital nutrients get into our bloodstream from what we consume & digest

🧖🏻‍♀️We can also deliver some of these key ingredients topically - by applying them to the surface of the skin where they are absorbed into the skin cells more directly

This right here is my jam! And it pains me that it often doesn’t get the acknowledgment and respect it deserves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🛡 It is a massive organ and is one of our first and most important lines of defence against the outside world, along with our gut and our lungs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is so strong and resilient and has the most amazing mechanisms to protect us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All of this (as pictured) is jam packed into such a small amount of space (thickness) sitting over our muscles.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧬 My passion as a skin focused Beauty Therapist is to ensure that your skin is functioning at its best. This means understanding this organ thoroughly, but also understanding the many MANY factors that influence its health and function… after all, ALL of our bodies systems are connected!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ The skins needs are actually stunningly simple but yet it is also amazingly and beautifully complex in its function

Stay tuned as I dive into a more detailed look at the skin and it’s functions over the next few posts 🤓

🍎 Teachers of Bridgetown — this one’s for you. 🌿

I know my usual Thursday & Friday treatment days aren’t exactly convenient when you’re in the classroom!

But school holidays are here… which means, for once, you actually can come and see me 😉

So I’m opening up my Spring Barrier Soothe First Experience Facial especially for our local teachers and education staff over the school holidays.

And because you’ve made it through another term, I’m adding a little extra…

✨ Book your Spring Barrier Soothe and receive a complimentary Restorative Scalp Ritual.

Think soothing, nurturing skin care, a little quiet time and a chance to completely switch off for just over an hour — because you’ve spent enough of the term looking after everyone else.

The Spring Barrier Soothe is my gentle, barrier-focused seasonal facial, designed around calming and supporting the skin as we move through spring.

📍 Beauty on Silvery Wave, Bridgetown
📅 Available during the September/October school holidays
🌿 For local teachers & school staff

If you’ve been meaning to come and experience my studio but haven’t been able to make my usual Thursday or Friday appointments work, this is your chance.

Send me a message to secure your spot. 💌

And if you know a teacher who could use a little time to themselves these holidays, please tag them or send this their way 💕

Well, this is a little bit special… 🤍

Last week I shared the news that I have been named a finalist in the Sole Trader Excellence category of the 2026 West Australian Skin, Spa, Aesthetics & Beauty Awards (WASSABA) alongside some incredibly talented therapists from across WA.

This is the first time I have put my name forward in an awards competition open to the whole industry, so to be a finalist is truly so rewarding.

The application process was quite extensive and it really had me stretching a part of my brain in a way that was very new to me! 😂 And I have to admit, seeing everything I’ve worked towards over the past 20+ years written down on paper was a pretty special experience in itself.

But perhaps what makes this recognition feel even more meaningful is where I am now.

After more than 20 years working in the skin industry, I made the big decision to leave Geraldton, move to Bridgetown and start building my business again in a community where I was essentially starting from scratch.

No established client base.
No local reputation.
Just a little studio, a lot of experience, and a whole lot of hope. 🤍

So to have Beauty on Silvery Wave recognised at a WA industry level, while I’m in the process of building this new chapter, is something I am incredibly proud of.

I don’t know what the outcome will be, but honestly, being named a finalist is an achievement I am very happy to celebrate. 🥹

And to my beautiful clients, both new and those who have supported me from afar as I made this transition — thank you. Your support, encouragement and trust mean more than you know.

Thank you to WA Skin, Spa, Aesthetics & Beauty Awards for creating this incredible opportunity to celebrate and recognise the amazing talent within our West Australian industry. 🙏🏻✨

Feeling very grateful, very proud… and a little bit excited to see what happens next. 🤍
