Simon Kerle’s story is one of transformation — from elite professional athlete to one of
Restorative and yin yoga can look almost identical.
Slow pace. Long holds. Lots of stillness.
But they’re not doing the same job.
Yin uses gentle, sustained sensation and longer holds to explore range.
Restorative is different.
The goal isn’t to stretch more. It’s to remove effort.
Your body is fully supported, giving it fewer demands to manage.
So which one do you need?
Feeling stiff, restless and ready for a gentle challenge? Yin may suit you.
Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or wired but tired? Restorative may be the better choice.
Yin invites sensation.
Restorative invites support.
Neither is better. They simply do different jobs.
Comment YIN and I’ll send you the three questions I use to decide between them.

Stretch your hamstrings every day and they still feel tight?
The problem may not be that they’re too short.
Sometimes tightness is your body limiting a range it doesn’t feel strong or controlled enough to use.
That’s why stretching can feel great for an hour, then the tightness comes straight back.
You changed the sensation.
You didn’t change the reason.
The missing piece may be:
• Strength through a longer range
• Better hip and pelvic control
• Too much sitting or training load
• Not enough recovery
At Raw Power Yoga, we don’t just keep pulling on the tight area.
We build strength and control through the range so your body becomes more confident using it.
Because the goal isn’t to get more flexible for the sake of it.
It’s to create movement your body can trust.
So next time your hamstrings feel tight, don’t just ask:
“How can I stretch them more?”
Ask:
“Why do they keep tightening back up?”
Comment HAMSTRINGS and I’ll send you the first movement I use to help work out what may be driving yours.

You can feel stress.
You can’t always feel what it may be doing underneath.
You can’t see inflammation, but chronic stress may contribute to it.
Stress doesn’t just live in your thoughts. Your whole body responds to it.
When stress stays high, your body can spend more time braced, sleeping poorly and recovering badly.
Inflammation itself isn’t the enemy. In the short term, it helps you heal and recover. The problem is when it becomes chronic.
The good news is you can influence your daily stress load.
Yoga, movement and slow breathing may help reduce perceived stress and support a calmer physiological state over time.
4 seconds in.
6 seconds out.
Not because one breath fixes inflammation.
Because what you practise consistently matters.
You don’t change your body in one class.
You change the conditions it lives in repeatedly.
Comment RESET and I’ll send you the breathing practice we use to help lower your daily stress load.

Eight hours of sleep can still leave you depleted. Learn the breathing shifts that unlock real repair.
Sometimes the bigger problem is that your body isn’t recovering well.
You wake up flat, foggy and unmotivated.
Small things feel harder than they should.
Coffee gets you moving, but you still don’t feel like yourself.
Chronic stress can interfere with sleep quality and keep your body in a heightened state of arousal, making it harder to properly settle and recover. (Frontiers)
Good sleep is about quality as well as quantity.
That’s where breathing can help.
Slow, paced breathing around six breaths per minute can increase heart rate variability and influence baroreflex and autonomic regulation, helping your body shift toward a calmer physiological state. (PubMed)
Try:
4 seconds in
6 seconds out
Slow. Light. Deep.
That breathing pattern is built into what we teach at Raw Power Yoga because recovery isn’t only about stopping.
It’s about teaching your body how to come back down.
So ask yourself:
Am I tired?
Or am I struggling to recover?
There’s a difference.
Comment RECOVER and I’ll send you the breathing pattern I use to help students slow down and settle their system.

Your brain is changing every day.
The question is: are you training the patterns you actually want to keep?
Your balance. Your movement. Your breathing. The way you respond under pressure.
Your brain can strengthen and reorganise connections based on what you repeatedly practise.
That’s neuroplasticity.
Every time you repeat a movement, focus your attention or respond differently to stress, you’re giving your nervous system another opportunity to learn.
But one class won’t magically rewire your brain.
Attention + challenge + consistency matter.
I’ve watched students wobble through the same balance pose for weeks, then suddenly one day, it holds.
That’s not luck.
Their nervous system has been practising.
With repetition, movement becomes smoother. Balance improves. What once demanded concentration starts to feel natural.
That’s neuroplasticity in action.
You’re not stuck with every pattern you have today.
Your brain is always learning.
Make sure you’re teaching it something worth keeping.

Not all pain means the same thing.
Some discomfort is part of your body adapting. Other pain is telling you something needs attention.
The problem is most people don’t know how to tell the difference.
Muscle burn, an intense stretch or soreness after doing something new can be normal.
Sharp, sudden, worsening or persistent pain is different, especially when it changes the way you move.
But pain isn’t a perfect measure of damage either. Stress, fear, poor sleep and previous injuries can all influence what you feel.
So don’t just ask, “Does it hurt?”
Ask:
Is it controlled?
Is it getting better or worse?
Does it settle when I stop?
Can I move normally afterwards?
The goal isn’t to avoid every uncomfortable sensation. It’s knowing which sensations you can work with and which ones deserve respect.
Pain that is sharp, worsening, persistent or changing how you move deserves attention from a qualified healthcare professional, not just a modification in class.

Your balance can decline long before you realise it’s happening.
You notice when you lose strength. You notice when you get less flexible.
But there’s another physical ability you can lose gradually without even knowing it.
It’s called proprioception — your body’s ability to know where it is in space without having to look.
It’s what lets you walk in the dark, step off a curb or catch yourself when you suddenly lose your balance.
When that system becomes less accurate, you hesitate on stairs, uneven ground feels less predictable and you stop trusting certain movements.
And that’s where the real problem starts.
When you trust your body less, you move less.
Move less and you can start losing strength, balance and coordination, creating a cycle that can eventually affect your independence.
But this isn’t inevitable.
Proprioception can be trained.
Balance work. Single leg movements. Slow transitions. Changing your visual focus.
I’ve seen students in their sixties shocked by how difficult a simple single leg exercise feels.
Not necessarily because they’re weak.
Their balance simply hasn’t been challenged for years.
Train it consistently and the wobble starts to disappear.
That’s why balance and off balance movements are deliberately built into every class at Raw Power Yoga.
Ageing well isn’t only about staying strong and flexible.
It’s about trusting your body when the ground, the movement or the moment suddenly changes.
