When it comes to skin rejuvenation, understanding how a treatment works is just as important as understanding what it treats.

LaseMD Ultra is a fractional laser resurfacing treatment that works by creating controlled micro-injuries within the skin, stimulating the skin's natural repair processes and encouraging new collagen production. By supporting the skin's ability to renew itself, treatments may help improve concerns such as pigmentation, sun damage, uneven texture and overall skin quality.

To learn more about LaseMD Ultra or discuss whether it may be suitable for you, book a consultation with our team.

Cooler temperatures don't mean UV exposure disappears.

While winter may feel gentler on the skin, ultraviolet (UV) radiation remains present year-round and continues to contribute to skin ageing, pigmentation and skin cancer risk. In Queensland, UV levels can remain high even on cooler, cloudy days.

That's why daily sun protection remains an important part of maintaining long-term skin health, regardless of the season.

At Shades Dermatology, we encourage a consistent approach to sun protection all year round.

"Specialist-led care" is a term often used in healthcare, but what does it actually mean for patients?

At its core, it means treatment recommendations are guided by specialist expertise, clinical assessment and diagnosis rather than simply matching a treatment to a concern. Two patients may present with similar symptoms, yet require very different management approaches depending on their individual circumstances.

Whether you're seeking support for acne, hair thinning, pigmentation, skin cancer management or another skin concern, understanding the underlying cause is often one of the most important steps in determining an appropriate treatment pathway.

At Shades Dermatology, this considered approach is at the centre of every patient journey.

Many people assume skin cancer will always be obvious, but changes can often be subtle and easily overlooked. A lesion doesn't need to be painful, raised or changing rapidly to warrant professional assessment.

Dermatologists play a central role in skin cancer management, from assessing concerning lesions and performing skin checks through to coordinating treatment and ongoing care when required. Their expertise helps ensure patients receive appropriate, evidence-based care tailored to their individual needs.

June is Acne Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to have a conversation about the importance of personalised acne care.

While many people associate acne treatment with skincare products and medications, advances in laser technology have expanded the treatment options available for suitable patients. AviClear® is one such option, designed to target sebaceous glands associated with acne as part of a broader acne management approach.

Because acne can present differently from person to person, treatment recommendations should always be guided by individual assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Acne is one of the most common inflammatory skin conditions, yet there are still many misconceptions surrounding its causes and management.

The reality is that acne is a complex condition influenced by a range of factors, including hormones, genetics and inflammation. It can affect patients well beyond their teenage years and, in some cases, may persist without appropriate treatment.

Understanding the facts is an important first step in understanding your skin. At Shades Dermatology, acne management is guided within a specialist dermatology setting, with treatment recommendations tailored to each patient's individual concerns and clinical presentation.
