Light Fractional Laser + Vascular Treatment | Fotona Dynamis
Patients in their 40s can be fantastic candidates for a lighter fractional laser treatment, particularly when the goal is skin rejuvenation without an aggressive treatment approach.
For this patient, Sharon is combining a light fractional Fotona treatment to target skin texture, tone and signs of photodamage, together with Nd:YAG vascular treatment to address visible redness and vascular concerns.

Laser for Facial Redness ✨
Redness on the face can have many causes, including visible or broken capillaries, diffuse vascular redness, rosacea and inflammation.
In this treatment, Sharon is having Fotona Frac3 with the Fotona Dynamis, performed by Dr Bart.
Frac3 uses Nd:YAG laser energy delivered into the skin to target appropriate vascular and skin concerns. For suitable patients, treatment can help reduce the appearance of redness and visible vessels while supporting improvements in overall skin quality, tone and vitality.
In the video, Sharon talks about the redness across her cheek and why we’re treating this particular area.
Every patient’s redness is different, so assessment is important to determine the underlying cause and whether laser treatment is appropriate.

We began with Nd:YAG FRAC3®, a three dimensional fractional treatment designed to target areas of skin imperfection and stimulate the skin’s natural rejuvenation response.
Around the mouth and lips, we performed a customised LipLase® treatment. Fotona’s Er:YAG SMOOTH® mode delivers controlled heat into the tissue to stimulate collagen remodelling, helping the lips appear naturally fuller and smoother while softening the lines around the mouth.
We then completed a light Er:YAG laser peel over the area to resurface photodamaged skin and improve its texture.
The redness shown is the expected immediate response following treatment and will gradually settle.
No filler was used. The aim is gradual, natural improvement through collagen stimulation and skin resurfacing.
Every treatment is tailored to the individual. Suitability, recovery and results vary.

Bart tries Fotona LipLase® for the first time!
Today, Sharon is treating Dr Bart’s lips using the Fotona SP Dynamis.
We begin with Fotona SMOOTH® mode, stacking four controlled pulses of heat at each treatment point across three passes. This is followed by the brushing technique, where the handpiece is moved carefully across the lips to distribute the laser energy evenly.
The controlled heating stimulates collagen remodelling and new collagen production. This can gradually help the lips appear smoother, naturally fuller and more defined without injecting filler.
Sharon then finishes with a light Er:YAG laser skin peel to refresh the surface of the lips and help improve rough texture and fine lines.
Bart’s lips are quite numb from the numbing cream, so it is definitely a new experience for him, but we are having some fun along the way!
Results continue to develop gradually over the following weeks. A complete course is usually recommended, with results commonly lasting around 6 to 12 months. Individual results and longevity will vary, and maintenance treatments may be recommended.

FULL FIELD LASER PEEL | FOTONA DYNAMIS
This image demonstrates the type of improvement that may be achieved with a full field laser peel. The degree of change illustrated is based on a genuine clinical response assessed three months after one treatment.
The Fotona Dynamis Er:YAG laser removes controlled, extremely thin layers of damaged surface skin. Full field resurfacing treats the entire selected surface and may improve:
• Sun damage and uneven pigmentation
• Coarse or rough texture
• Fine lines
• Visible pores
• Dull or uneven skin quality
Fractional resurfacing treats microscopic sections while leaving surrounding skin untreated. Neither approach is automatically better. The appropriate technique depends on the patient’s skin, goals and acceptable recovery time.
Recovery may take up to two weeks. Redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling and temporary crusting may occur. Careful aftercare and strict sun protection are essential.

Can you see the laser pulse? 👀
The red light visible in this video is only the aiming beam—it shows us exactly where the laser is being directed. The actual 1064 nm laser energy used during this Fotona StarWalker® treatment is invisible.
That invisible energy can still be harmful to the eyes, which is why everyone in the treatment room wears wavelength-specific protective goggles.
Here, we’re performing the FracTAT® stage of Fotona skin rejuvenation. FracTAT delivers extremely short, high-powered pulses in a fractional pattern, creating a predominantly photoacoustic effect rather than relying on prolonged bulk heating of the skin.
This stimulates the skin’s natural repair and renewal response and may help improve:

A little bit of life before Newcastle Cosmetic Doctor.
I came across these old photos recently and they brought back some very fond memories.
I started working as a paramedic in 2002 when I was 19. I’d grown up in Newcastle and barely knew Sydney, and strangely enough, one of the things that worried me most was getting lost.
There were no iPhones or Google Maps. We had the old street directory.
I can still remember being somewhere in the back of Sydney in the middle of the night, trying to read street signs and work out which direction the hospital was. You’re trying to drive smoothly for the patient and your partner in the back while quietly thinking, I genuinely have no idea where the hell I am.
I used to lose sleep worrying about it.
But I loved being a paramedic.
I loved the patients. Being invited into someone’s life, often on a pretty ordinary day for them, listening to them, looking after them and hopefully making things a little better.
I also loved the people I worked alongside. Paramedics, nurses, doctors, wardsmen, cleaners, admin staff and so many others across Sydney, Newcastle and regional NSW. I met some wonderful people during those years.
When I eventually started medicine, I couldn’t quite give ambulance work up. I continued part time through medical school and even casually into my intern year.
All up, it was around 13 years of my life. There were certainly hard days, but there’s a lot about it I still miss.
And the two little blokes sitting beside me in the second photo are my nephews.
They’re now about the same age I was when I first started in the ambulance service.
That really puts into perspective just how much time has passed.
We saw a LOT at the NSS Non-Surgical Symposium at the ICC Sydney 😂

✨ Skin rejuvenation with Fotona StarWalker — combining FracTAT® + Nd:YAG
At Newcastle Cosmetic Doctor, we can combine different StarWalker technologies to target pigmentation, uneven skin tone and overall skin quality.
FracTAT® delivers very high-energy fractional pulses into tiny microscopic points within the skin, producing a predominantly photoacoustic rather than thermal effect. Depending on the settings used, it can create microscopic fractional channels while stimulating skin renewal and keratinocyte turnover.
