⚠️ Unpopular curly opinion:
Your gel might not be the reason your cast is soft.
I can use the exact same gel on 10 different curlies and get 10 different results.
Why?
Because curls aren’t all the same.
If you want extra hold and weather protection, try adding a curl-friendly hairspray over your wet cast before drying.
🛡️ Think of it as an extra humidity shield for your curls.
❄️ Perfect for frosty mornings.
🌧️ Great for rainy days.
🔥 Handy when humidity is trying to ruin your wash day.
💬 Did you know this this?
The curly industry talks about gel…
…but hardly anyone talks about this newer humidity shield trick. 👀
❄️ Curls going fluffy the second you step outside?
✨ Try this:
Apply a curl-friendly hairspray over your wet cast before drying.
🛡️ The curl-friendly hairspray acts as a humidity shield layer that gives your curls extra hold, making it perfect for frosty mornings, wet weather or humid days.
✔️ Extra hold
✔️ Less fluff
✔️ Better weather protection

As a family-owned Canberra business our loyalty program is designed to reward loyalty from you to our business.
Our loyalty program is designed to reward genuine customer purchases and your loyalty back to our business.

Effective immediately:
✅ Loyalty cards can no longer be combined with other loyalty cards. Don’t forget your card!
✅ Stamps cannot be transferred between cards or customers.
✅ Each loyalty card is issued to one customer only. One card to be used at a time. If you forget your card we will no longer combine cards.

❌ Smudged, altered, duplicated, transferred, photocopied, forged, or tampered stamps will not be accepted.
As a goodwill gesture, we have continued to honour some legacy loyalty cards from previous programs. However, due to misuse of this goodwill gesture the ability to combine stamps from legacy cards will cease on 30 June 2026.
After this date:
• Legacy cards will no longer be accepted.
These changes help us protect the integrity of the program and ensure rewards remain fair for all customers.

Most curlies don’t have a product problem. 👀
They have a hydration and distribution problem. 💧🌀
One of the biggest things we teach at Curly Cuts is that hydration isn’t just about what products you use...
It’s not about smothering the hair with the heaviest products you can find.
It’s about how you use them.
You can’t affiliate-link water. 💧
That’s why many curlies spend years chasing the next miracle product before learning that hydration, water distribution, and application techniques can completely change how their curls behave.
A wet brush isn’t just for detangling.
Used correctly, it helps:🌀 Distribute water evenly🌀 Distribute products evenly🌀 Encourage curl clumping🌀 Improve hydration throughout the hair
Sometimes the difference between a good curl day and a frustrating one isn’t another product...
It’s better hydration and distribution techniques.
This is exactly what we teach every day at Curly Cuts. ✂️🌀
👇 Be honest...
Were you ever taught WHY curl specialists wet brush curls?
Or were you simply told what products to buy?
SAVE this post for your next wash day and SHARE it with a curly friend who’s still spending a fortune chasing the perfect product instead of learning the techniques that help those products perform their best. 💧🌀

Back in 2020, my hair was still wavy, Curly Cuts didn’t exist yet, and all I had was a vision to create something different for curlies 🖤
I had already started helping curlies online through Natural Eclipse, https://naturaleclipse.com.au/ but this was the moment things became real. The moment I really started to create change in the curly industry in Canberra and rattle the help hair industry Australia wide. I wasn’t afraid it needed to be done and I was strong enough to do it.
Looking back now at the classes, the community, the salon, the education, and all the curlies we’ve helped since… it’s honestly pretty emotional.
Sometimes the biggest journeys start with one scary little ‘For Lease’ sign. The I will have a go moment!
The leap to be different. To take a chance — and cop that criticism may come along the way for being different.
And refusing to back down no matter what was thrown at me over the years.
We’ve had a huge amount of new followers, people visiting the shop, and attending our classes lately
For those new o and curly Cuts there are so many ways we’ve supported curlies for over 8 years.
It all first started with Natural Eclipse in 2018 — our online curly shop, where we continue to support curlies Australia-wide today.
You can find a wide range of help by:
• reading our blogs online

• following our socials on Instagram and Curly Cuts
• or booking one of our hands-on Look & Learn classes at Curly Cuts.
Don’t ever be afraid to reach out.
I started this journey back in 2018 when I turned my back on traditional hairdressing to focus on helping curlies — and that passion has never changed
Hot take:
Your curls were never “unmanageable”…
they were either cut at the wrong angle , over sliced or over -thinned for years 😭
At Curly Cuts, we often meet curlies who think their hair is:
❌ too frizzy
❌ too fluffy
❌ too hard to style
❌ impossible to define
But once we start looking at the haircut…
everything starts making sense.
Curls react VERY differently to cutting techniques.
Traditional thinning and slicing can break apart curl families, remove important weight, and leave curls struggling to connect together properly. This creates frizz because the ends are left wispy and thin.
That’s why some curls suddenly look:
⚡ fluffy
⚡ stringy
⚡ uneven
⚡ frizzy no matter what products you use
A proper curl-focused haircut isn’t about forcing curls to look straight.
It’s about working WITH the natural movement of the curl pattern instead of against it 🌀
It’s about creating a “crooked’ shape.
And when the cut starts supporting the curls instead of fighting them…
you often notice the difference instantly. Even as I cut you can see less frizz more definition.
Sometimes the problem was never your routine.
Sometimes your curls were simply trying to survive the haircut 💔
Have you ever walked out of a salon and felt like your curls looked worse instead of better?
Drop a 🌀 below if you know the feeling.
And send this to a curly who needs to hear this today.
Do your homework, get a real curly cut not just a “curly cut”😜
Based on a true curly horror story 🔪💀
POV: Every curl clump in your head screaming at once the second the thinning scissors come out 😭
One minute you’re thinking:
“Wow my curls look healthy today 🥰”
…then suddenly:
✂️ chhk chhk chhk
🌪️ frizz
😳 random short pieces
🌀 curl clumps disappearing in real time
This is one reason we DON’T use thinning scissors at Curly Cuts 👀Thankks to
Many curlies already struggle with frizz, uneven shrinkage, and broken curl clumps — and thinning can make curls separate, fluff out, and lose definition even more.
Curlies know this horror is REAL 😭
Have you ever had your curls overly sliced or thinned and instantly regretted it?

I hear this ALL the time at Curly Cuts Canberra… 👀🔥
I don’t do colour at Curly Cuts. I only specialise in curly cutting, so many of my customers visit other salons for colour services.
“I went to get my hair coloured… and the hairdresser pulled out the straighteners to finish my curls.”
And honestly… it reminded me just how far the hair industry still has to go.
This client NEVER wears her hair straight.
She wanted to wear her curls natural.
She wanted her hair dried curly.
So my question to the hair industry is…
WHY are we still straightening curls to finish them?
WHY are you not asking the client if they want their hair dried curly.
WHY are you not learning at the very least new methods on how to style and dry curly hair curly?
Curly hair is not meant to behave like straight hair.
It’s not meant to sit in one perfect blunt line.
And curly customers should not feel pressured to wear their hair straight just to make a colour “look perfect”
The sad part?
It’s not entirely the hairdresser’s fault.
Most of us were taught this way.
I was that hairdresser once too.
Traditional hairdressing training was built around straight hair methods — and for years, curly hair was treated like a problem to smooth, stretch, or control.
Has this happened to YOU? 👀🌀
Have you ever sat in a salon chair feeling pressured to straighten your curls…
or told your hair would only look “finished” once it was blow-dried straight?
COMMENT BELOW ⬇️
It’s time curlies started speaking LOUDER so the hair industry can finally hear us.
Every comment helps show salons that curly customers want to wear their hair NATURAL — not hidden under straighteners 🔥
Your voice could help another curly finally feel seen, understood, and confident enough to say:
“No thanks… I actually LOVE my curls.” 🖤

So today I had a customer sit in my chair at Curly Cuts Canberra who told me that the colourist that did her hair colour pointed out that her haircut I had done was “crooked.”
It was a reminder to me of how far we still need to go in changing the hair industry. Curly hair is not meant to be cut straight like straight hair. Otherwise when worn curly it would sit “crooked”
Nor should this client have to have her hair blow dried straight. She doesn’t ever wear it straight. So my question to other hairdressers is why are you still straightening it ?
Thats why she has her curly hair cut “crooked”. So it sits for her curls.. she wants it dried curly.
It’s the opposite way around — just like we wouldn’t cut straight hair using curly cutting methods. Then straight hair would look “crooked”.
But for some reason, many hairdressers are still stuck in this outdated mindset where curly hair has to be cut like straight hair techniques simply because that’s all that was taught.
It’s a reminder that the hair industry still has a long way to go when customers are still faced with this level of ignorance coming from someone in the profession. Of course it’s not the hairdressers fault . They don’t know different it’s how we were all taught. Me included. I was that hairdresser. I listened to the voice of customers and changed .
And for the record, my curly-haired customer did set this hairdresser straight after she tried to force her to “fix” her hair. She desperately wanted to cut her “crooked” haircut straight. So then, when she washed her hair and wore it back in its natural curly pattern, it would have looked crooked — but it would have looked straight for that one day of her life when the hairdresser straightened it.
Go figure. Makes no sense does it 🤷🏼♀️
It’s time to really shake this hair industry. I’m proud of my customer today for standing her ground . You remind me we all need to be a voice for curlies that want to wear their hair natural with “crooked haircuts”
