MCA Victoria is proud to donate $4,000 from the 2026 Victorian Mine Rescue Competition to CFA Oscar 1 Mine Rescue.

Based in Bendigo, these dedicated volunteers provide specialist rescue capability for the mining industry and regional communities. The funding will help purchase new rescue equipment so they can continue their vital work.

Mining powers Australia's economy and pays for vital services and infrastructure, including Medicare, roads, police, teachers and public transport.

New analysis by EY-Parthenon for the MCA shows combined royalties and company tax payments of $63.8 billion for the 2023-24 financial year (FY24), down by $10 billion since FY23, and set to drop more in future as costs increase and commodity prices fall.

No one should take this contribution for granted. Competitive, stable policy settings are critical to securing the next generation of investment and economic growth.

Labor delegates at this week’s National Conference in Adelaide should consider mining’s contribution to stronger Australian communities and health, education and other services when debating motions which may increase the tax burden on mining.

Mining paid $63.8 billion in taxes and royalties in FY24. While payments have fallen from recent record highs as commodity prices eased, the sector remains Australia's largest taxpayer and has contributed $432 billion to government revenues over the past decade.
