Melissa Page Massage Therapy
Remedial Massage Therapist with over 20 years experience. Trained in Hot Rocks, Cupping and TENS. If you are reading this Welcome and Hello!!
I am Melissa and have been massaging over 20 years. I have worked in a combination of Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy Clinics and worked out of home. I have trained in Hot Stones, Cupping and TENS. I am also a mother of three young adults whom I am immensely proud of. You will see me massaging out of my clinic at Caringbah two to three days a week. I share this clinic with two other Massage Therapist's and a Chiropractor. I also massage Aged Care Clients in their own homes or retirement villages two days a week. This is usually provided by their Aged Care Package. Lastly, I provide massage at Retreats, Private or Corporate Venues. eg Craft Retreats, Yoga Retreats, Church Events. I love all aspects of my work except tech. Why did I become a Massage Therapist? When I was young and silly I loved Natural health and wanted to study Naturopathy. Massage was the first part of that course. I never became a Naturopath, however I completed my Diploma of Remedial Massage when my eldest son was 18 months. Now I am old and cynical I still love massage. If I can help people feel a little bit better and move a bit easier I am happy. I can often find sore bits you don't even know you have and fix them in ways that will keep us both guessing. I try to listen to what your body needs and use my skills of massage, hot rocks, cupping and TENS to help alleviate any niggly bits. I also try to educate my clients in home massage, cupping and TENS. I use to sing, play guitar and write songs but lost my voice, (I did six months of vocal therapy and avoided surgery, I regained my voice,) and haven't regained my mojo for music yet. I like long distant walking and swimming at the moment and enjoying the little things. I completed three 35km walks last year. If you would like to book in a massage or contact me regarding Aged Care Massage or Retreat Massages call or text 0415 622 025
If you want to see my music you can look at my YouTube videos. I don't play music anymore.
Groin pain is not always muscular skeletal, you may have a small occult hernia. The best way to get checked is to see a hernia specialist.

Surgery went well yesterday. 3.5 hours. Bilateral inguinal and femoral hernias plus the right sided canal of nuck.
Now for rest then rehab.
If you have unexplained groin pain, get the abdominal wall checked. Hernias can hide not all will bulge and can mimic other symptoms, including bladder, bowel and muscular skeletal issues.

Clients see the session.
Therapists run the whole practice.
When we are setting our rates, we are are not only pricing the minutes spent at the table.
That rate may also need to support the treatment space, supplies, laundry, administrative work, payment fees, licensing, insurance, education, taxes, cancellations and the time a human body needs away from hands-on work.
This is not a formula for what anyone should charge. It is a reminder to calculate the complete cost of providing the service.

The Fallacy of Static Imaging.
Why your lying-down ultrasound was clear.
Standard ultrasound and CT protocols are performed while lying flat and relaxed. Gravity pushes hernia contents back into the abdomen, hiding the hole. If an abdominal wall defect is suspected, gravity and intra-abdominal pressure must be applied to see it.

The "Occult" Hernia Explained
What makes a hernia 'Occult'?
"Occult" simply means hidden. An occult hernia doesn't produce a visible or easily palpable bulge on the outside, but it pulls, pinches, and burns on the inside. Never assume you don't have a hernia just because you can't see a lump.

Inguinal vs. Femoral: What’s the difference?
Inguinal hernias occur above the inguinal ligament, while femoral hernias sit just below it in the femoral canal, adjacent to major blood vessels and nerves. Because the femoral canal is tight and rigid, femoral hernias carry a much higher risk of strangulation - yet they are significantly harder to feel on physical examination.

The Physical Demands of Bodywork
As a massage therapist, my workday involves heavy lifting - moving laundry, helping elderly or mobility-impaired clients on and off the table, and sustained standing. When you have holes in your abdominal wall, everyday occupational strain becomes unsustainable. Taking care of others starts with honouring your own physical limits.
