Do you know what to do in the first few minutes after a wound happens?

Many wounds do need specialised medical care, but there's a lot you can do at home to help. Here's what to do straight away:

1️⃣ Wash your hands thoroughly under clean running water for 20 second. Pat dry with a clean cloth.
2️⃣ Press a clean paper towel against the wound for several minutes to stop the bleeding.
3️⃣ Once the bleeding has stopped, rinse the wound with plenty of clean water. If you'd drink the water, it's clean enough. Cooled boiled water works too.
4️⃣ Gently remove any dirt with a clean, damp cloth.
5️⃣ Avoid using harsh chemicals such as peroxide, iodine, alcohol or soap on the wound (unless medically advised).
