Does your colour still feel like you?

Sometimes it's not the greys themselves that start bothering you.

It's the colour you've been using to cover them.

Maybe you've been having the same colour for years, but as your percentage of grey has increased, you're starting to notice:

• Your regrowth seems more obvious than it used to
• Your colour feels a little too dark or heavy
• You don't love the contrast anymore
• Or you look in the mirror and it just doesn't feel quite right

That doesn't automatically mean you need to go lighter or start embracing your greys.

You might simply need to change the way we're colouring them.

That could mean adjusting the shade, softening the coverage, adding some lighter pieces or changing the type of colour we use.

And if you still love your darker colour and want every grey completely covered? That's perfectly fine too.

The goal isn't to make everyone lighter as they get greyer.

The salon was closed Monday while Rachael was in Melbourne attending a NAK breakfast event, and today Sarah is at TAFE.

SALON CLOSED — MONDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER

The salon will be closed today as I will be in Melbourne for the annual NAK Collective Breakfast.

This year's breakfast is all about marketing, brand awareness and business growth, giving us the chance to learn, connect with other salons and bring some fresh ideas back to Cutting Edge.

Because education isn't always about hair — sometimes it's about learning how we can continue to grow and improve the salon too.

We'll be back open as normal on Wednesday.

You don't have to choose between covering your greys or going completely natural.

There's another option we use a lot in the salon — Soft Colour.

Think of permanent grey coverage a bit like Dulux paint. It gives you solid coverage, but as your hair grows, you can see that definite line between your coloured hair and your new growth.

Soft Colour is more like a watercolour.

It's a demi colour that's softer and more translucent, allowing some of your natural variation to show through rather than completely covering every grey.

And because it gradually fades, rather than leaving such a solid line as it grows out, the regrowth can feel much softer too.

It's a great option if you're:

✨ Not ready to stop colouring your hair
✨ Getting tired of the maintenance of full grey coverage
✨ Wanting to start working with some of your natural grey
✨ Or you simply don't like the colour of your own grey and would prefer to soften or change it

The three ladies pictured here have all had Soft Colour, and as you can see, it can work beautifully on very different hair.

You don't have to decide between “cover it all” and “let it all go.”

Sometimes the answer is somewhere in between.

Why grey coverage needs experience — not guesswork

Grey hair isn't simply your old hair with a different colour.

As the percentage of grey increases, the way your hair takes colour, the coverage you can achieve and even the way that colour needs to be formulated can change.

And what worked beautifully for you five years ago might not be the right answer anymore.

That's why we don't believe in simply putting the same colour on your regrowth appointment after appointment.

We look at how much grey you have now, how it's changing, the result you want and how often you realistically want to maintain it.

Sometimes that means complete coverage.

Sometimes a softer, more translucent colour is the better option.

And sometimes it's time to start introducing lighter pieces and working with your grey rather than constantly trying to hide it.

The important part is knowing which option is right for you.

That's where experience with grey hair makes a difference.
