To be her, I had to be her.

I think about that a lot.
Because the women who reach out to me about mentorship almost always think they’re different. That something needs to fall into place first. That confidence will arrive once the proof does.

It doesn’t work like that.

The version of me you see now started as the version on the bottom. Working 18 hour days in fashion. Commuting four hours from Wollongong to Sydney. Burnt out, underpaid, and so far from anything that felt like mine that I’d stopped asking when it would.

Then on my 26th birthday, I sat in a chair to get my eyebrows tattooed. I spent the entire appointment asking the artist how she’d built her business.

I went home that day and enrolled in my first course.

I was awful at it. For a long time. Practising on paper after work. Tattooing my own brows in my bedroom. Renting a room one day a week and posting in Facebook groups because I didn’t have any clients to show.

The clinic. The team. The academy. The 500 artists we’ve trained. None of it came first.

It came because I was willing to be her first.

The version of me with nothing to show. The version of me who started anyway.

You won’t feel ready before you start.

You become ready by starting.
