Supporting women with the traditions of Chinese medicine throughout their life’s journey

Supporting your body through the transition into spring!

There is something special about the transition into spring. The mornings slowly become lighter, the days begin to warm, and nature around us starts to come alive again. After the slower, more inward energy of winter, spring often brings a sense of movement, renewal and possibility. But just as nature takes time to transition between seasons, our bodies can also benefit from a little extra support during this period of change.

In Chinese Medicine, the seasons are closely connected to our health and wellbeing. Each season carries its own qualities and is associated with different elements and organ systems. Spring is traditionally connected with the Wood element and the Liver system and is considered a season of movement, growth and renewal.

As we move into spring, this can be a beautiful opportunity to check in with yourself and consider what your body might need. Some really nourishing things that you can include into your daily, or weekly ritual.

Embrace Movement
After the colder and often more sedentary months of winter, spring invites us to start moving again. This doesn't necessarily mean dramatically changing your exercise routine or pushing yourself to do more. Instead, think about finding gentle and enjoyable ways to bring movement back into your day. A walk outside, stretching in the morning, yoga, swimming or simply spending more time in nature can all be beautiful ways to reconnect with your body. In Chinese Medicine, spring is associated with movement and the free flow of Qi. Finding ways to gently move the body can be a wonderful way to embrace the energy of the season.

Adding some more fresh foods to your plate again.
Spring is a wonderful time to begin incorporating more fresh and seasonal foods into your meals.
Think leafy greens, fresh herbs and colourful vegetables. Rather than focusing on restriction, consider how you can add more variety and nourishment to your plate. Eating with the seasons can also be a lovely way to reconnect with nature and become more mindful of what your body needs throughout the year.

Protect that Wind-gate of yours!
One of the most well-known ideas in Chinese Medicine during the spring season is the importance of protecting yourself from Wind.
In Chinese Medicine, the back of the neck is considered an important area to protect and is sometimes referred to as the "Wind Gate." During periods of cool or windy weather, it can be helpful to keep the back of your neck and upper shoulders covered. While the weather may be starting to warm up, spring days can still be unpredictable. A scarf or light layer can be an easy way to stay comfortable when the temperature changes throughout the day.
Sometimes the simplest habits can make a difference to how supported and prepared we feel during seasonal transitions.

Create space for yourself, and for growth
Spring is a season of growth, and this doesn't just apply to the world around us. It can also be a beautiful time to reflect on the routines, habits and commitments in our own lives.

You might like to ask yourself:
What feels stagnant in my life right now?
Where could I create more movement?
What habits are no longer serving me?
What would help me feel more energised and supported?
Where could I create a little more space for myself?

Growth doesn't always have to mean doing more. Sometimes growth can look like slowing down, letting go of what no longer serves you and creating space for something new.

Listen to your body
Perhaps the most important thing to remember during any seasonal transition is that everyone's experience will be different. You don't need to completely change your lifestyle when spring arrives. Instead, consider making small adjustments and paying attention to how you feel.
Spend time outdoors. Move your body in ways you enjoy. Nourish yourself with wholesome foods. Rest when you need to. Protect yourself from unpredictable weather. And most importantly, give yourself permission to transition slowly. Just as nature doesn't bloom overnight, we don't need to rush our own growth either.

Spring is a beautiful reminder that our health is always evolving. By working with the changing seasons and becoming more aware of what our bodies need, we can create small rituals that help us feel more connected, supported and grounded throughout the year.

🌿 This spring, let nature be your reminder that growth doesn't have to be rushed.

🌿 The Magic Combo: Spleen 6 + Liver 3 🌿

If you’ve ever come in for acupuncture around your cycle, there’s a good chance we’ve used Spleen 6 (SP6) and Liver 3 (LV3) together — and there’s a very good reason why.

Spleen 6 (San Yin Jiao) ✨

Located on the inside of the lower leg, SP6 is known as the meeting point of three Yin channels — the Spleen, Liver, and Kidney.
It’s famous for:

Nourishing Blood and Yin

Regulating the menstrual cycle

Calming cramps and PMS symptoms

Supporting fertility and hormonal balance

Liver 3 (Tai Chong) 🌿

Found on the top of the foot, LV3 is the command point for moving stuck Liver Qi — and in Chinese medicine, the Liver channel plays a huge role in menstrual health.
It helps to:

Relieve stagnation that causes cramps, clotting, bloating, and irritability

Smooth emotional swings and mood changes

Harmonise the flow of Qi and Blood through the uterus

Why We Combine Them

Used together, SP6 + LV3 form a powerhouse duo often called the Four Gates of Yin. They work synergistically to:

Move what’s stuck while also nourishing what’s depleted

Ease period pain and regulate irregular cycles

Support hormonal balance from menarche through to menopause

It’s one of the reasons these points are used in so many women’s health treatments — they’re gentle, effective, and deeply harmonising for the body.

If you’re struggling with painful periods, irregular cycles, PMS, or fertility challenges, this combo could be a game-changer for you.

🤯 Back Pain? Let’s Treat… Your Hand?! 🤯

Sounds wild, right? But this is the magic of Tung acupuncture — an ancient, highly effective system that uses powerful points on the hands, arms, and legs to treat pain anywhere in the body.

For back pain, we often use specific Tung points on the hand that directly “speak” to the spine. By stimulating these points, we help:
✨ Release tension in the muscles
✨ Calm inflammation
✨ Improve circulation and energy flow along the affected channel

And here’s the coolest part — treatments often involve walking while the needles are in. Yep, you read that right! This dynamic method helps the body retrain itself and release pain more effectively.

Check out our Instagram video of our owner, Dr Kirby, TCM, experiencing this treatment firsthand — it’s pretty amazing to watch! 🌿

If you’ve been struggling with stubborn back pain, this could be the technique that changes everything.

🌿 Cupping Therapy — What It Is & Why We Do It 🌿

If you’ve ever seen those mysterious round marks on someone’s back and wondered what on earth happened… it was probably cupping!

Cupping is an ancient therapy used in Chinese medicine (and now loved by athletes, wellness seekers, and anyone needing a reset). Special cups are placed on the skin to create a gentle suction, which:

✨ Releases muscle tension – easing tight, aching areas
🌬️ Improves circulation – helping fresh blood and oxygen nourish the tissues
🌿 Moves stuck Qi and Blood – in TCM, this relieves stagnation and promotes healing
🛡️ Boosts immunity – by stimulating lymphatic flow and detox pathways
💆 Calms the nervous system – leaving you lighter, more relaxed, and more balanced

Those famous “cup marks”? They’re not bruises! They’re a sign that circulation has been activated and stagnation is shifting.

Cupping can be deeply therapeutic for:

Muscle aches & tension

Back & neck pain

Stress & fatigue

Headaches & migraines

Respiratory conditions

And even supporting your body’s natural detoxification

Want to try it for yourself? Pair it with acupuncture for an even deeper release.
