BROWS THROUGH THE AGES

Ancient Egypt 3500BC - 2500BC
Cleopatra set the trend of thick, bold brows. The Egyptians believed that makeup held super natural powers, so they wore heavily-lined eyes as the focal point of their face which meant that the eyebrows needed to be darkened to match the eyes. They used carbon and black oxides to draw on dark, elongated, arched brows as a homage to the God of Horus.
It was traditional to shave the brows in mourning for the death of the house cat.
