Because I know he knows the craft. He knows what clean parting looks like. He knows what consistent tension feels like. He knows when every braid is sitting exactly where it’s supposed to. 😂

So yes… I definitely felt that extra pressure with J! But when I finished this set and stepped back to look at the pattern, I already knew… YEP. I ATE THAT. 😮‍💨👏🏾

We went with 8 Pop Smoke /flat two-strand twists, alternating throughout the design — one braid, one flat twist, one braid, one flat twist — creating a pattern that is bold, clean, and completely different from a traditional braid layout.

What I love about Pop Smoke braids is the direction and placement. Instead of everything simply flowing straight back, the braids work around the shape of the head and frame the face, giving the style that signature structured look.

But the real beauty is in the details.

The parting.
The spacing.
The curves.
The consistency.
The way each braid follows the design.
And making sure the twists and braids complement each other instead of competing with one another.

This is the kind of style that reminds me that braiding is more than just putting hair into a braid. It’s technique. It’s precision. It’s pattern. It’s creativity.
