We are so incredibly honoured to share that our Sam Oraya latest article about Reiki has been published by @ Mocha Beauty along with so many incredible industry experts articles.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would one day be writing about Reiki for Australias leading beauty and wellness publication.
For many years, Reiki and other energetic and holistic practices, was often dismissed as “woo-woo” or viewed as something existing outside more conventional conversations about health, beauty and wellbeing.

Today, that conversation is beginning to change.

We are seeing growing curiosity about the connection between the mind, body, nervous system, emotions and our sense of safety and wellbeing. Researchers are also beginning to explore practices that many of us have experienced personally for decades.
While science is still developing and Reiki cannot be reduced to a single clinical explanation, it is heartwarming to see it approached with greater openness, respect and interest.
Reiki has been an important part of both my personal healing and my professional life. It has influenced how I hold space, how I care for my clients and how I understand wellness - as a sense of connection and harmony across the physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual self.

To see Reiki beginning to find its place within mainstream beauty and holistic wellness feels like a beautiful full-circle moment. I feel deeply honoured to contribute to that evolving conversation and to share a practice that has given so much to me.

My heartfelt thanks go to Mocha Beauty for creating space for this article, and to the teachers, practitioners, my students, clients and my Reiki friends and wider Reiki community, who continue to preserve, practise and share this beautiful tradition.

Most of all, thank you to every person who has trusted me to hold space for them through Reiki. Every experience, every connection and every quiet moment of healing has helped bring me to this point.

What was once whispered about as “woo-woo” is now being welcomed into a broader conversation about beauty, healing and whole-person wellbeing.

And never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would have the privilege of being part of it.

Healing Hands: The Rise of Reiki in Spa, Salon and Clinical Care
For spas, salons and clinics, this shift matters. Clients are no longer seeking only visible results. They are seeking calm, safety, restoration and deeper care. Reiki offers a way to support this deeper level of care while enhancing the therapeutic value of touch-based treatments.
Reiki is a Japanese system of healing and self-development founded in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui. The word Reiki is often translated as “universal life energy.” “Rei” may be understood as universal consciousness or spiritual wisdom, while “Ki” refers to the vital life force that flows through living beings.
What Is Reiki?
In practice, Reiki is associated with gentle hands-on healing. A practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, with the intention of supporting relaxation, energetic balance and the body’s natural healing response.
However, Reiki is more than hands-on treatment. Traditional Reiki is a system of self-cultivation, including meditation, breath awareness, contemplation of the Reiki precepts and inner stillness. Hands-on Reiki is a byproduct of the practitioner’s own spiritual and energetic practice.
In Reiki, the practitioner is not “fixing” the client. Rather, the practitioner acts as a facilitator of universal energy flow, creating conditions in which the recipient may soften, release energetic blockages and return toward balance. Reiki honours the idea that healing already exists within the person.
The Reiki Precepts and the Nervous System
Central to Reiki are the Five Precepts: do not anger, do not worry, be grateful, be true to you and your way of being, and be kind to every living thing.
These precepts align with modern understandings of stress physiology. Chronic anger, worry and emotional dysregulation are associated with sympathetic nervous system activation; the “fight or flight” state. When prolonged, this may contribute to muscle tension, poor sleep, digestive disruption, heightened pain perception and reduced immune resilience.
The Reiki precepts encourage presence, gratitude, compassion and emotional regulation. These qualities support parasympathetic activation and the “rest, digest and repair” state, where the body is better able to restore, regulate and heal.
Reiki in Medical Settings
One of the strongest signs of Reiki’s growing acceptance is its presence in integrative healthcare programs, particularly in the United States. Reiki and related touch therapies are offered in some hospitals, cancer centres and wellness programs as complementary support for patients experiencing anxiety, pain, fatigue or emotional distress.
Major institutions such as Mayo Clinic and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center include integrative medicine services alongside conventional healthcare. This does not mean Reiki is a replacement for medical treatment. It means healthcare environments increasingly recognise the value of therapies that support comfort, calm and quality of life.
What Does the Science Suggest?
Research into Reiki is still developing, and more large-scale studies are needed. However, many reviews suggest Reiki may have positive effects on pain, anxiety, stress reduction and relaxation.
One consistent explanation is that Reiki may help activate the parasympathetic nervous system. When the body shifts out of stress and into rest, heart rate, breathing, muscle tone and pain perception may all be influenced. This makes Reiki relevant where clients arrive overstimulated, anxious, fatigued or emotionally depleted.
Reiki may also be understood through biofield science, which explores subtle energetic and electromagnetic fields generated by living organisms. While this does not prove every traditional explanation of Reiki, it supports a more open conversation about how presence, touch, intention and regulation may influence physiology.
Reiki in Spa, Salon and Clinic Practice
Reiki can be integrated into facials, massage, lymphatic drainage, oncology-safe treatments, scalp rituals, hand and foot rituals, meditation services and post-treatment grounding. It requires no equipment, has minimal overhead and places little physical strain on the practitioner. Its greatest requirement is training, ethical practice, presence and consistency.
When combined with massage or facial therapy, Reiki may help clients soften more quickly, reduce muscle guarding and feel safer in their body. This is especially relevant when working with the fascial and lymphatic systems, both of which respond to breath, rhythm, relaxation and nervous system tone.
For salons, Reiki principles can enhance the client experience even when Reiki is not formally listed as a treatment. A calm practitioner, intentional touch, slower pacing and emotional awareness can transform an ordinary appointment into a restorative experience.
A Professional Future for Energy Healing
For Reiki to be respected in professional environments, it must be practised with integrity. Practitioners should avoid exaggerated claims and never suggest Reiki can cure disease.
Instead, Reiki can be described as a complementary therapy that may support relaxation, stress reduction, emotional wellbeing, comfort and the body’s natural healing response. As the beauty and wellness industries evolve, Reiki offers a bridge between ancient wisdom and emerging science and a reminder that healing is not only mechanical, but also deeply human.

Kindness has a ripple effect...
and our little Sheppard Road, Emu Plains Community Pantry is proof of that.

To every single person who has donated to our Community Pantry at The Day Spa, 37 Sheppard Road, Emu Plains.....
Thank you.

Many of you quietly leave items without ever saying a word. Often we don't know who you are, but please know that we see the kindness behind every tin of food, every packet of pasta, every toiletry, every loaf of bread and every thoughtful donation.

What may seem like a small gesture to you can mean the world to someone else.

This little pantry has become so much more than a place to leave food.

It has become a symbol of community, compassion and hope. It reminds us that there are still beautiful people who choose to care for complete strangers simply because they can.

To those who use the pantry, we hope it brings a little relief, comfort and the reassurance that your community is standing beside you. There is absolutely no shame in needing a helping hand. We all need one at different times in our lives.

To those who give, please know your generosity creates a ripple that extends far beyond the items you leave. Your kindness restores dignity, eases worry, inspires others to give, and reminds us all that humanity is alive and well.

From the bottom of our hearts... thank you for helping us create a community where kindness is shared so freely.

If you are in need or would like to contribute , our Community Pantry is available 24 hours a day outside The Day Spa, 37 Sheppard Road, Emu Plains.
