Lip neutralisation to correct two toned lips.

My wonderful client came in with a story I hear almost every week. Her top lip was darker than her bottom lip, with a cool/mauve cast she'd been covering with lipstick forever. (And even lipstick doesn't do the job )
Her lip line had faded into her skin, and she had darker pigment sitting in the corners.
These are not the healed results. This tone will fade 40% over the next 12 weeks at her touch-up appointment.

Lip neutralisation looks like it's failing right before it works. Here's every stage, day by day — so you know what's normal before you're living it.

First, what it actually does.

Dark, dusky or uneven lips usually come from cool undertones and melanin sitting under the surface. Neutralisation layers warm corrective pigment to cancel that darkness out. But the colour fresh off the needle isn't the colour you keep — your skin heals over the top, sheds a good portion of the pigment, and the true tone surfaces underneath.

That's why the healing runs the way it does:

Day of — bold, crisp, fully saturated. The vivid first look.
Day 2 — darkest and tightest. Peak intensity, not the result.
Day 3–4 — peeling. Colour flakes, goes patchy, then can seem to vanish completely. This is the phase everyone panics over. Don't. The pigment is settling under new skin, not disappearing.
Day 6–7 — the colour blooms back, softer and more even than day one.
Day 9 — fully settled into a natural blush pink.
Week 8 — matured, brighter and warm-toned. This is the base we build on.
Touchup at week 12

Why it's two sessions. Skin exfoliates a real percentage of pigment as it heals, so a top-up around 6–8 weeks later isn't fixing a mistake — it's where we perfect saturation, even out any light spots and lock the tone in for good.

One rule while healing: hands off. Picking or peeling the flakes pulls pigment with them and risks patchiness and scarring. Let it shed on its own.

These brows were created using nano hairstrokes to softly rebuild areas where natural brow hair was sparse and uneven.

One of the most important things to understand about cosmetic tattooing is that the true result isn't what you see immediately after treatment—it's what remains once the skin has fully healed and settled over time.
