One of the most special parts of our launch night was getting to stand in our new clinic and reflect on just how far I’ve come 🥹🧡

When I first started my business, I had zero clients… but I would still get dressed in my uniform every day, ready to treat one.

I’d spend my days sitting in my little treatment room learning ads, building my website, getting friends in so I could create social content, educating on socials, introducing myself to neighbouring businesses and their clients, and even walking the streets doing letterbox drops!

I treated that little business like it was busy long before it actually was.

And it honestly wasn’t long before I was booked out two months in advance.

I’ve always been driven by goals, but looking back, I think one of the biggest things that got me here was being willing to do the work when there was no guarantee anyone was going to notice.

I didn’t wait until I had clients to show up.
I didn’t wait until I felt established to take my business seriously.
I just kept doing the next thing that could move me forward.

Eight years later, standing in our beautiful new clinic surrounded by our team and clients, that really hit me. 🥹

So if you’re at the beginning of something right now, a business, a career, a goal, anything! Don’t be embarrassed by the stage where it feels like nobody is watching.

My experience working in this industry hasn’t always been the best…

I’ve had managers make me feel like I wasn’t good enough at my job and constantly pressure me to “sell, sell, sell.” 🙄

I once had a manager tell me, word for word, “I will make your life a living hell if I catch you talking to your colleague again.” 😳 (I can LOL about this one now 😂)

I’ve been underpaid for a LONG time and laughed at when I questioned it.

I’ve been blamed for mistakes I didn’t make.

And just to clarify… these were all DIFFERENT leaders and bosses!

At the time, these experiences knocked me and made me question if this industry was right for me…. But looking back now, I’m actually grateful for them.

They were a huge part of why I decided to step out on my own.

I felt like my work ethic, passion and good nature were constantly being stamped on, and I knew there had to be another way.

And now, as a business owner and leader myself, those experiences have shaped so much of who I am today.

They drive me to create a culture where people feel valued, supported and encouraged to grow.

They remind me that our passion for skin and helping our clients should come through in everything we do, not because someone is standing over us saying “sell, sell, sell.” 🙄 WTF!

And they remind me of the type of leader I never want to become.

Have I made mistakes along the way? MANY!

I’m still learning. I’m still growing. And I definitely don’t get it right all the time.

But I know WHY I care so deeply about building CL Skin the way I do. ❤️
