A weekend of learning, connection, coffee, and plenty of note-taking. ☕📚
This weekend I attended the 2026 Massage & Myotherapy Australia National Conference, held right here in Geelong at GMHBA Stadium, home of the Geelong Cats.
This year's theme focused on Multidisciplinary Healthcare for Chronic Pain.
Chronic pain is complex and rarely has a simple solution. One of the key messages throughout the weekend was the importance of looking beyond a single treatment approach and recognising the value of collaboration, education, movement, lifestyle factors, and person-centred care.
One of the things I love most about this profession is that there is always more to learn. Every conference, course and conversation helps me continue developing my knowledge and refine the care I provide to my clients.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from leading practitioners, connect with fellow therapists, and return to the clinic with fresh perspectives and ideas.
The learning doesn't stop when we graduate—it continues throughout our careers, and ultimately benefits the people we care for every day.
I'm looking forward to continuing that learning journey and bringing new insights back to the clinic. 💚

“Knots” aren’t actually knots.
A lot of people describe tight, tender areas in muscles as “knots” — but they’re usually not muscles twisted into literal knots.
That tight, tender spot you feel is often a small area of muscle fibres remaining partially contracted or tightened, commonly referred to as a trigger point.
These areas can become sensitive, tight, achy, and may even refer pain elsewhere in the body.
They can develop from:
• repetitive movement
• stress and nervous system tension
• posture and compensation patterns
• overload or injury
• not enough recovery
That’s why the same spots can keep returning.
Your body is often adapting and protecting — not failing.
Remedial massage isn’t just about treating the sore spot itself, but understanding why your body may be holding tension there in the first place.

Hi, I’m Ann — the hands behind Nurture & Restore Remedial 🤍
I’m a Remedial Massage Therapist with experience in day spa and clinical environments, along with mobile work supporting seniors — which has really shaped how I approach treatment.
Since qualifying, I’ve continued to expand my skills through extensive further training across a range of techniques and treatment approaches, including Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Lomi Lomi Level 2, cupping, and hot stone therapy. Ongoing study through the Freedom From Pain Institute, based on the work of Erik Dalton and his Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, continues to shape my focus on clinical, movement-based treatment.
For me, it’s not just about working on what’s sore —
it’s about understanding what your body is doing as a whole, and treating with intention.
If your body has been feeling stuck, tight, or like nothing is quite changing…
you’re not alone.

If you keep dealing with the same tight spot, but it never really improves — you’re not imagining it.
That tight shoulder, sore hip, or stiff neck often isn’t the root of the issue.
It’s just where your body is holding on.
In a lot of cases, something else underneath is driving that tension.
That’s why treatment isn’t just about focusing on what feels tight or sore.
It’s about stepping back and understanding how your body is actually moving and compensating.
When you start to address the reason behind it, things tend to shift in a more lasting way.

If you’ve never had a remedial massage before, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about what actually happens during a session.
Remedial massage is often associated with “fixing” tight or sore areas — but the approach is usually a little more layered than that.
Treatment usually begins with a conversation about your body, any areas of discomfort, and what you’re hoping to get out of your appointment. To gain an understanding how your body is moving, where it may be compensating, and what it might need to support better function overall.
Where appropriate, this may also include some assessment to gain a better understanding how your body is moving, where it may be compensating, and what it might need to support better function overall.
From there, treatment is tailored using techniques selected with intention — not just a standard routine — to support what your body needs on the day. Techniques are selected to work with your body — not against it — with the aim of supporting gradual, meaningful change over time. This might look like improving movement, easing discomfort, or simply helping your body feel more supported day-to-day.
The goal is to support gradual, meaningful change over time, rather than just temporary relief.
