In this step-by-step tutorial, I’m creating a textured high updo on dry, fine hair, building shape and fullness as I go.

With fine hair, the prep makes a big difference. You want enough grip to help the style hold, while keeping products light so they don’t weigh the hair down.

Working in smaller sections gives you more control over the shape. Gently teasing and carefully loosening each section helps create a fuller look without pulling everything apart. A secure foundation supports the height, so the finished style can look soft while still feeling secure.

8.5 hours later — after a heavy weights session, a run, a fast walk, plenty of sweat… and I wasn’t finished testing it yet.

I sprayed my face with water, rubbed it in, pressed it with a tissue, and even tested it against tear-like drops containing water, salts and oils.

The goal with this new technique was simple: lighter coverage, more glow, but still waterproof, sweat-resistant, heat-resistant and tear-resistant.
