Shoulder pain isn’t always just about the shoulder.
The shoulder is a highly mobile area involving several joints, muscles and tendons working together with the shoulder blade, upper back, ribs and neck.
That means pain around the shoulder can present in quite a few different ways, including:
• Pain when reaching overhead or behind your back
• Discomfort when lying on the affected side
• Reduced movement or stiffness
• Pain with lifting, pushing or pulling
• Aching around the shoulder blade
• Symptoms that extend into the upper arm, neck or upper back
There are also many possible causes, which is why assessment matters.
During an osteopathic consultation, we may assess your shoulder movement and strength as well as relevant areas such as your neck, upper back, ribs and shoulder blade mechanics. Treatment and management advice can then be tailored to the individual findings.
💬 Have you noticed your shoulder pain is worse with movement, at night, or after sitting for long periods?
If shoulder pain is starting to interfere with work, exercise, sleep or everyday activities, you can book an appointment with our osteopathy clinic for an assessment.

Sore feet? Tight calves? Heel pain?
Your feet and lower limbs do a huge amount of work every day, and when movement is restricted or uncomfortable, it can affect more than just your feet.
The way the feet, ankles and lower limbs move can influence how load is transferred through the knees, hips, pelvis and lower back. That’s why, depending on what we find during assessment, treatment may involve looking beyond the exact spot that feels sore.
This video shows hands-on osteopathic treatment of the feet and lower limbs as part of a broader musculoskeletal approach.
If you’ve been dealing with heel pain, sore arches, ankle stiffness, tight calves or lower-limb discomfort that just keeps hanging around, it may be worth having it assessed.

What have you quietly stopped doing because it hurts?
Turning your head properly when reversing the car?
Going for that longer walk?
Getting down on the floor with the kids?
Training at the gym?
Gardening without regretting it the next day?
Sleeping on your favourite side?
Pain and stiffness don’t always stop you completely. Sometimes you simply start changing the way you move, avoiding certain things, or telling yourself, “I’ll see how it goes.”
And suddenly, a few weeks turns into a few months.
Osteopathic care involves looking at how your joints, muscles and surrounding tissues are moving, as well as the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
Depending on what we find, treatment may include hands-on techniques, movement advice and exercises tailored to you.
If an ache, restriction or recurring niggle has been quietly changing what you do, it may be worth getting it assessed.

Question for you: what everyday movement would you most like to feel easier again?

A clean home is great. Feeling like you’ve been hit by it afterwards? Less ideal. 🧹
Vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, lifting baskets, changing sheets and reaching up to clean all those “I’ll do that quickly” spots can be surprisingly hard on your body.
Sometimes it’s not one big job. It’s the combination of bending, twisting, lifting and doing too much in one go that leaves you stiff and sore afterwards.
Cleaning can commonly stir up discomfort in the:
• lower back
• neck and shoulders
• hips
• knees
• elbows, wrists and forearms
A few simple ways to make it easier on your body:
🧽 Break bigger jobs into shorter sessions
🧹 Swap sides when vacuuming or mopping
🪣 Don’t overload buckets or baskets
🧺 Keep loads close to your body when lifting
🪜 Use a stable step instead of overreaching
🚶 Change positions regularly and take movement breaks
And if cleaning keeps leaving you sore, stiff, or quietly avoiding half the house, it may be worth getting it assessed.
Osteopathic care may include assessment of your movement, joints, muscles and surrounding tissues, with treatment and advice tailored to what we find.

Which job gets you first — vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms or changing the sheets?

Anyone else feel like their neck has aged 20 years from sitting at a desk, driving, or looking at a phone?
Neck pain and stiffness are incredibly common, and they can make surprisingly simple things irritating — checking your blind spot, sleeping comfortably, turning your head, working at a computer, or getting through a gym session without feeling tight afterwards.
Sometimes it’s just a short-lived flare-up. Other times it keeps coming back.
Common complaints include:
• stiffness or reduced movement
• aching through the neck and shoulders
• pain when turning your head
• headaches associated with neck tension
• discomfort after sitting or driving
• tightness that builds through the day
There can be a lot contributing to neck pain, including the joints, muscles and surrounding tissues, as well as things like posture, sleep, work setup, exercise load, stress and previous injuries.
That’s why recurring neck pain can be worth properly assessing rather than just repeatedly stretching the same tight spot and hoping it behaves.
At Eclipse Health and Osteopathy in Hollywell/Runaway Bay, we assess how the neck, upper back and shoulders are moving and look at the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms. Treatment may include hands-on osteopathic techniques, movement or exercise advice and practical strategies for managing aggravating activities.
If you’re local and your neck has been giving you grief, we’re happy to help.

And out of curiosity — what seems to aggravate your neck most: desk work, driving, sleeping, exercise or phone scrolling?

Spring gardening shouldn’t mean spending the next three days regretting it. 🌿
The weather warms up, the garden starts calling… and suddenly it’s two hours later, you’ve weeded half the yard, moved three pots you probably shouldn’t have moved alone, and your back has opinions.
Gardening can involve a lot of repeated bending, lifting, twisting, kneeling and working in one position for longer than you realise.
If your back tends to feel sore or stiff afterwards, a few simple changes may help:
🌱 Change positions regularly rather than staying bent over for long periods
🌱 Break bigger jobs into shorter sessions
🌱 Keep heavier pots and loads close to your body when lifting
🌱 Use a kneeling pad, stool or raised garden bed where practical
🌱 Take a few movement breaks before your back starts complaining
🌱 Ask for help with the genuinely heavy stuff — the giant pot does not care about your pride
And if back pain or stiffness is making gardening harder, keeps returning, or is starting to affect other things you enjoy doing, it may be worth having it assessed.
Osteopathic care may include assessment of your movement, joints, muscles and surrounding tissues, with treatment and advice tailored to what we find.

What’s the gardening job most likely to make your back complain — weeding, mowing, digging or moving pots?

😏Is your shoulder being a bit dramatic?
You reach for the seatbelt… complaint.
You put on a shirt… complaint.
You sleep on it… complaint.
You dare to lift your arm above shoulder height… apparently that’s unacceptable now. 😂
Shoulder pain can be surprisingly good at inserting itself into everyday life.
Sometimes it feels tight. Sometimes achy. Sometimes sharp. Sometimes it seems to drag your neck or upper back into the argument too.
So, important question:
What has your shoulder currently decided you’re no longer allowed to do?
😂 Sleep on one side
🙋 Reach overhead
👕 Get dressed comfortably
🚗 Reach into the back seat
🏋️ Exercise normally
😒 All of the above
If your shoulder has been carrying on for a while, an osteopathic assessment may help work out what’s contributing to the problem and whether the shoulder itself, neck, upper back, ribs or surrounding muscles are involved.

Lower back pain isn’t always just about your lower back
Back pain is common, but the reason behind it can vary significantly from person to person.
For some people, symptoms may be influenced by things such as prolonged sitting, changes in activity, lifting, repetitive movements, reduced mobility, muscle tension, previous injury or irritation of joints and other surrounding structures.
That is why two people with pain in the same area may need very different approaches.
An osteopathic assessment looks at more than just where it hurts. It may include checking movement, joint mobility, muscle tension, strength and other areas that could be influencing how your lower back is functioning.
Treatment is then based on the individual findings and may include hands-on techniques, movement advice and exercises where appropriate.
It is also important to have back pain assessed if it is persistent, worsening, following significant injury, or accompanied by symptoms such as weakness, numbness, changes in bladder or bowel function, or numbness around the groin or saddle area.
