Grief for a dog is one of the purest forms of heartbreak.

They are woven into the ordinary moments of our lives so completely that we often don’t realise how much of our world revolves around them until they’re gone. The sound of their paws on the floor, the familiar weight beside us on the couch, the expectant eyes at mealtime, the quiet comfort of their presence in the hardest moments.

A dog never loves us for what we achieve, what we own, or who we pretend to be. They love us completely, faithfully, and without condition. When they leave us, we are not just mourning a pet; we are mourning a witness to our lives. A keeper of our routines, our secrets, our joys, and our sorrows.

The depth of our grief is not a measure of weakness. It is a measure of love. And when the pain feels unbearable, it is because something extraordinary existed. The ache we carry is simply love with nowhere left to go.

In time, the grief softens. It does not disappear, because real love never does. Instead, it becomes gratitude; a quiet reminder that for a brief part of our lives, we were fortunate enough to be loved by a soul who asked for so little and gave us absolutely everything.

Special Guest In Salon Most Weekdays Going Forward Until The End Of September… the one and only .thepug 🐾✨

Her bravery, tenacity & spirit is truly inspiring.

For those who haven’t been following Kumu’s journey since March… our little girl suddenly became very unwell and required emergency surgery after ongoing bladder issues. Since then, she has undergone multiple procedures, specialist appointments, scans, medications and surgeries in hopes of restoring her ability to wee normally.

Most recently, specialists attempted a balloon dilation surgery, however sadly her urethra is now completely sealed closed due to a rare condition called Acute Proliferative Urethritis, something most commonly seen in desexed female dogs with a history of chronic bladder infections and stones.

While the surgery was unsuccessful, the positive news is Kumu is otherwise healthy — her bloods, kidney function and overall health are all strong. She now has a cystotomy port fitted, which helps us manage her condition and allows her to continue living a happy, comfortable life surrounded by love.

So don’t be surprised if you see this brave little soul hanging around the salon over the coming months. She’s still got plenty of sparkle left ✨🤍
