5 habits that can help achieve clearer skin
1)EXERCISE
Regular exercise increases blood flow and can help with stress regulation. Chronic stress can influence inflammation and acne, so moving your body regularly can benefit your skin in more ways than one.
Just remember: sweat isn’t “detoxing” your pores. Cleanse after exercising to remove sweat, oil and products sitting on the skin.
2)CLEANSE AROUND YOUR WORKOUT
If you’re exercising with makeup, sunscreen, sweat and oil sitting on your skin, you’re more likely to experience congestion, particularly if you’re acne-prone.
A gentle cleanse before and after your workout can help keep things clean without stripping your skin barrier.
3) WATCH YOUR CAFFEINE
Noone is saying you need to give up your morning coffee ☕️
But excessive caffeine can interfere with sleep and may increase feelings of stress in some people.
And poor sleep + chronic stress can affect inflammation, skin-barrier function and breakouts.
4)PRIORITISE SLEEP
Your body does a lot of its repair and recovery while you sleep.
Poor sleep has been associated with impaired skin-barrier recovery, increased water loss from the skin and increased inflammatory/stress responses.
Your skincare routine can’t completely compensate for consistently poor sleep. 😴
5)LOOK AT YOUR DIET
You don’t need a perfect diet for good skin.
But diets high in refined carbohydrates and high-glycaemic foods have been associated with acne. Some people may also notice more breakouts with dairy, particularly milk.
On the flip side, a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, fibre, whole foods and omega-3-rich foods provides nutrients that support overall skin health.
And importantly — omega-3s are our friend
Start with the basics. Then build your skincare around them. 🤍
Disclaimer: Individual skin concerns vary, and acne can have multiple contributing factors. These habits are supportive, not a replacement for appropriate acne treatment.

Inflammaging isn’t just about age, it’s about chronic inflammation
If you’re not addressing both internal + external triggers,
you’ll keep chasing results instead of maintaining them
Calm the skin = better collagen, pigment control, and long-term outcomes

Layer 1: The bone, the foundation of facial ageing
The skull is not a fixed structure. It continues to change as we mature.
Bone resorption in the face begins earlier than most people realise and becomes more noticeable from our mid-30s onwards.
As facial bones slowly lose volume and structural integrity, the soft tissues they support begin to sink, shift and sag. This loss of foundation is a major driver of visible ageing, often before significant skin laxity even appears.
Key areas affected by bone resorption:
• Orbital rim → hollowing, tear troughs
The eye socket gradually enlarges, creating a deeper, more sunken appearance.
• Maxilla (midface) → flattening, reduced cheek projection
The midface slowly recedes backward, leading to loss of cheek support and a flatter profile.
• Mandible (jaw) → jowling, loss of jawline definition
The jawbone shrinks and remodels, reducing structural support and contributing to jowls and blurred jawline contours.
Understanding these deeper structural changes explains why facial ageing is not just about wrinkles, it’s about foundation loss.
This is why modern aesthetic treatments focus on support, balance, and subtle restoration after a thorough medical consultation.
When conducting skin consults or skin treatments, a woods lamp is a diagnostic tool that helps us see whats under the surface of the skin. It's an extra step that ensures my assessment is as accurate as possible as not everything is visible to the naked eye. 👁️
Depending on what we find under the black light I can see if certain conditions are treatable or what treatments are contraindicated, helping us set realistic expectations for your skin journey 🩵
I am now taking on a few skin consults and micro-needling sessions depending on the day, to offer a more holistic approach to maturing skin.
