The Women Who Give the Most Often Put Themselves Last
With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend… I wanted to say something simple.
You’re doing an incredible job.
Not just in the big moments.
But in the everyday ones.
The planning.
The organising.
The remembering everything for everyone.
The way life just… works… because you’re there.
I’m sharing this photo with my wife Vijay because watching her has given me a whole new appreciation for what mums carry behind the scenes.
The effort that goes unnoticed.
The consistency of showing up.
Even when you’re exhausted.
And something I’ve realised over the years is this …
The women who give the most… are often the ones who put themselves last.
I see it in clinic all the time.
You sit down and immediately point out everything you don’t like about yourself.
But rarely stop to recognise everything you are.
So this weekend… instead of focusing on what needs fixing … Take a moment to acknowledge yourself too.
Because you deserve that.

These 3 things will never make it into my family’s kitchen. Not because I’m strict — because I know exactly what they do to your gut. Flavoured kids’ yoghurts. Pouches, bright packaging, cartoon characters. Most are dessert with a vitamin printed on the label. Emulsifiers like polysorbate-80 have been shown to thin the mucus layer of the gut, and the sugars and artificial colours feed all the wrong microbes — it’s basically a microbiome-disrupting dessert for breakfast. Sugar-free and diet drinks. Aspartame, sucralose and saccharin can alter the microbiome in as little as two weeks, and some studies link them to glucose intolerance — the exact opposite of what they’re marketed for. The packaged health bar aisle. Granola bars, protein bars, muesli bars — flip them over and you’ll find seed oils, emulsifiers, sugar alcohols, and an ingredient list that reads like a chemistry test. Ultra-processed products with great marketing and very little nutrition. This isn’t about perfection — it’s about pattern. If your family eats whole, real food 80% of the time, the odd treat won’t matter. But if these three are showing up every single day, it’s worth a rethink.
