Im Kanyeala
From Hawaii.
Lived pretty chaotic lifestyle until I became a father of 3 the mom left and the kids and I continued life creating our happiness and smiles with love fun and adventures.
9 yrs ago I broke my back and was bound to a wheelchair for just over a year, multiple operations and a strong will with positive energy gave me the ability to walk, run even backflip.
The kids and I lived full and fast with lots of challenges but we got through it all while I often worked 2 jobs my main 1 is my passion, nearly 8yrs in youth and disability services as I wanted to help people to live a more fulfilling life and to become as independent as possible.
Fatherhood is by far the most beautiful thing ill do but my work is also so rewarding for my soul. Im High energy and always smiling (smiling Hawaiian)
I'm also a singer/songwriter and aspiring actor. I dropped my first album last year and currently working on my second.
Hair is a big part of Hawaiian culture so 21 yrs ago i chose to loc mine to suit my lifestyle, barefoot jungle boy always swimming playing and free, locs were the best choice to coincide with my lifestyle, ive had then down to my thighs twice only cutting them to hold employment. The most challenging part is maintenance as I have a non-stop lifestyle i tend to not make time for it but I also like that my style requires little maintenance to keep them how I like.
To anyone thinking of locs id advise that they understand the commitment with definitely look at testimonies from others.
My locs help me connect with life, mother nature and my inner spirit. My locs hold beauty, memories and strength in perseverance.
Locs often get a warm response from people but there are also negative responses, being comfortable with who you are helps to define what responses you take in and what you dismiss.
I have my 3 children's hair and my mom's who passed all locked in with mine.
For me my locs are a beautiful connection, id love to live with forever. I love locs and I find most people with them are very spiritual and connected.
How to Care for Your Locs at Home
Looking after your locs doesn't have to be complicated, it's about consistency, not perfection.
Keep them clean with a gentle, residue-free shampoo, and don't be afraid to wash them regularly. Make sure they are fully dried afterward to avoid buildup or smell.
Hydration is key - a light mist of water or natural oils can keep your locs feeling fresh without weighing them down.
Protect them while you sleep with a satin or silk wrap to reduce frizz and breakage.
And most importantly.... be patient. Your locs will change, soften, tighten and evolve over time .... that's part of the journey.
Healthy locs aren't forced.... they are nurtured.
The Perfect Locs
Let me tell you something gently...
There is no such thing as perfect locs.
Not the neatest parts.
Not the smoothest roots.
Not the most uniform set.
Because locs aren't meant to be perfect,
they are meant to be yours.
They shrink, they frizz, they change, they grow....
just like you do.
The 'perfect' locs?
They are the ones that reflect your journey, your energy, your story.
At Seaside Locs, I don't chase perfection...
I create locs that feel like home.
So if you are waiting for perfect....
you might miss the magic of what's already becoming.
Just after peoples points of view
There's a deeper story behind locs
For Rastafarian people, this isn't just hair.
It's faith. It's identity. It's a way of life.
Locs come from a spiritual commitment....
a choice to live naturally, to honour the body as it was created
and to walk closely with Jah (God).
They are also connected to the Lion of Judah....
a symbol of strength, power and divine protection.
The locs themselves, like a lion's mane .... bold, untamed, unapologetic.
But it goes even deeper than that.
Wearing locs is also a quiet form of resistance.
A rejection of society's idea of what beauty 'should' look like.
A return to roots.... to culture... to truth.
So when you see locs,
you are not just looking at a hairstyle.
You are witnessing history.
Spirituality.
Freedom.
At Seaside Locs, I honour where this journey comes from... always.
Because this path deserves respect, understanding and care.
What does wearing locs mean to you?
Ok, I want honest opinions in the comments…. do you think anyone can wear dreadlocks, or do they belong to specific cultures?
I wear, create and install dreadlocks, so I hear every side of this conversation…. I'm curious what people actually think
Effortless Hair, Effortless Confidence
One of the most beautiful things about dreadlocks is how effortless they can be.
No hours spent styling.
No constant brushing or fighting with your hair.
Just wake up, shake them out, tie them up, wrap them or let them fall naturally.
Dreadlocks are one of the most low maintenance hairstyles while still being full of personality and expression. Whether you wear them loose, in a messy bun, braids, half-up styles or wrapped with beads and threads, they always look unique and natural.
At Seaside Locs we love styles that feel free relaxed and authentic....hair that moves with your life, not against it.
Effortless hair doesn't mean boring.
It means confident, natural and completely you.
