🚩 Red flags to look out for when choosing a dreadlock artist

🚩 More selfies than actual work
🚩 More AI-generated images than real client photos
🚩 Lots of “inspo” but very little of their own work
🚩 No clear before & afters
🚩 Never showing the crown of the hair to show how well hair is actually maintained
🚩 Heavy use of filters that make the dreads impossible to assess properly
🚩 No close up work or poorly lit photos
🚩 No photos of work once it’s settled or matured
🚩Constantly showing new clients - not repeat business
🚩 Can’t find examples of the specific service you’re actually booking for
🚩High service fee doesn’t mean experience or quality work
🚩 Their page looks more like a personal brand than a portfolio

Your dreadlocks are a big investment. Do your research, look for REAL work, and make sure the person you’re booking can actually show you what they can do over a period of time - not just “new” clients! Make sure they are happy to answer your questions and even do an interview person consult to ensure you are comfortable before committing to dreadlock life! ✨💫

It’s actually wild to think that the before photo was legit a COMPLETELY different colour… when I say I had so many pre-install menty Bs - this before & after is exactly why 🤣😭👀

My beautiful client was so patient with me throughout this whole install process, from dealing with the 20+ anxious perfectionist messages I sent over the weeks leading up to it - to the 24 hours we spent actually installing them 😆🙏
I’d done Octavia’s hair before in the past so I knew how warm her hair colour was & also knew she was many different shades of browns & warm copper caramels so when she requested I get a “cool toned blonde, as cool as possible” for her extensions, you can bet your best dollar that I found every single reason to stress out about how I was going to blend this into the colour she wanted without colouring her hair 🫣

I knew her consult notes said 70-90x locs in the thickness she requested, which meant I either pre-make the extensions weeks leading up to the install to save us both the long sitting of making them on the spot & risk there being a noticeable colour difference in the attachments between her hair & the extensions OR I suck it up & sit through the two full 12 hour days on custom blending each and every single loc one by one until it was perfect 🫡 so I made the choice to make the sacrifice to dedicate my time & energy into making every single loc blend seamlessly & perfectly - 73x to be exact 🪄

I know this is a long dragged out caption & install journey story, but you all know me and know that regardless of what it takes - I’m going to do the MOST to ensure that this turned out absolutely perfect. So yes, I know 24 hours is a friken hectic time to make my client sit but hey, at least the colour blend & outcome is bloody seamless and better than either of us could have imagined 😭🥹

I’ll never not be the girl that does everything she possibly can to make my installs perfect - because this is always gonna be more than just a job to me. Hair is my passion and my life now, and that’s never going to change 🙏🫶🏼✨

Was my turn to sit in the chair yesterday and I finally took the plunge to get permanent partial dreadlocks but ofcourse had to make it boujee with luxury ends!
