Of course you look & feel amazing tanned but there are some considerations that may be of interest to you.
In high-UV environments, darker skin offers protection from the damaging effects of UV radiation, especially to DNA and the valuable nutrient folate. The little melanin umbrellas!!
The more melanin, the darker the skin tone. The less melanin, the lighter the skin. The amount of melanin in the skin affects vitamin D status because the skin depends on UV rays to synthesize vitamin D, and darker skin inhibits its production.
Individuals with lighter skin tones have less melanin, allowing them to absorb UVB radiation more efficiently and produce vitamin D more effectively. However, this increased efficiency can also lead to a higher risk of sunburn and skin cancer if proper sun protection measures are not taken .
When we get a tan up come the little melanin umbrellas trying to protect our DNA. This is why I’m such a fan of hats , protective clothing & sunglasses alongside a broad spectrum SPF . I always want to be covered for all of the suns rays UVA - aging UVB - burning UVC - cancerous , I personally support my vitamin D levers with a high quality practioner only vitamin D supplement . I love the feeling of the sunlight & its warmth but only when I’m fully protected against UV exposure am I able to relax . I guess I get to see first hand the scars & hear all the sad stories of what melanoma / skin cancer is capable of . Every day I do my best to educate & protect the people around me .
