Pearl Rock Hair Extensions

You’ve just completed your hair extension certification and you’re setting up your salon or building your toolkit. Learn from my mistakes and avoid these unnecessary, awkward or ineffective tools and see what I use instead.

CORRECTION TIME ✨ HOW SHE LEFT VS HOW SHE ARRIVED

This lovely client had recently had a brand new set of wefts installed elsewhere. Unfortunately, a few factors made the install uncomfortable, difficult to conceal and unsafe for this client’s low-density hair and scalp.

Here is the AFTER shot, in which you can see:
✨ the wefts sitting flush with her scalp,
✨ a reduced amount of wefts per row,
✨ a finer thread, in a colour which better matches her hair,
✨ flatter corners, which are applied so that tension is reduced on the extremities of her rows.

HOW SHE LEFT

With a beautifully installed, flat, neat and safely installed weft.

HOW SHE ARRIVED

A bulky, overloaded track on this client’s ultra-fine hair is not only unsafe, but very uncomfortable to wear and difficult to conceal.

The recommended maximum number of wefts per row is six, on a client with strong, dense hair.
This application has seven wefts in the top row (I had already removed some of it when this video was filmed), making it very heavy and causing a lot of tension on the client’s scalp.

• thread wasn’t a perfect match to the client’s colour or the weft colour. The use of cotton thread is also suboptimal. Cotton thread is a heavier gauge than the nylon thread I use for all applications, making it harder to sit flat against the client’s scalp. It is also hydrophilic, meaning it readily absorbs water and takes longer to dry, making it a perfect environment for bacteria to develop.
• the needlework here is bulky and untidy, which is difficult to hide under very fine hair.

As already mentioned, this top row was overloaded with seven pieces of weft, which isn’t recommended, especially on a client with low-density hair.

NANO BEADS ✨

This client has hair with good density, but wanted more length. She’d had a bad experience with wefts in the past and was sure she only wanted to have nano beads, not wefts.

For this transformation, we custom made the rich, auburn colour using a mix of warm browns and used approximately 180 grams to achieve the final result.

My beautiful, new client wanted fullness without too much weight.

This transformation features 22 bonds of 0.75 and 0.25 grams each, to give my client beautiful, bright, lightweight fullness around her face. We chose a PRHE exclusive colour, made from three shades of blonde, with a cool brown root stretch, so blend seamlessly with her hair.

ULTRA VIOLET 💜🖤

Sam has been wearing her dark brown wefts for over a year now, and having been a devotee of vivid hair colours in the past, was getting bored of the dark brown colour. Cue these super-gorgeous and fun violet wefts!

Wanting to avoid damaging her hair with bleach and colour, she opted to keep her own hair dark and add the violet wefts to the dark brown ones she already had in. The result is a vibrant, head-turning balayage of darkest brown and ultra violet, which she absolutely loves!

To achieve this look, we added 100 grams of 22 inch wefts to Sam’s hair, along with her darkest brown wefts. To carry the colour right through to her hairline, I custom-made keratin bonds, which we placed around her face.

SANDRA 🖤

Gorgeous Sandra wanted to enhance her already amazing head of shiny, thick, black hair. Being a hairdresser herself, she sourced her own wefts and we used 150 grams of 22 inch hair in jet black, to amp up her already beautiful hair.
Since Sandra’s hair has a lot of density, there was almost an hour of complex blend cutting required to get everything beautifully and seamlessly blended.

My beautiful client, Bianca surprised all her friends and family yesterday, with an engagement party-turned wedding day!! How exciting is that?

In preparation for her big day, Bianca and her hairdresser sourced platinum blonde wefts and custom-coloured them to match Bianca’s unmissable, vivid, red hair.

Enter me, Samantha, stage right, with the weft skills, and we installed three rows, using the waterfall method, colour matched the thread at the top of the wefts and then blend-cut her fresh, new hair, ready for styling for her big day.

For Ruby’s first ever set of hair extensions, we used 100 grams of luxury, invisible wefts in 18 inches, with keratin bonds to add lightweight fullness and length around her face.

The extensions have filled in the gaps in her lengths and given more volume and length, while still being a very lightweight install.
