🌸 Just a reminder ladies that the salon closes at 9pm tonight and reopens at 7am on 15th September because….. I am going to Japan! ✈️
Whoo hoo! I’m super excited and counting down the last sleep. 💤
For any appointment changes or bookings feel free to SMS the salon phone on 0434 314 018 but as I will only be checking it sporadically, it may take a few days to get back to you.

(Ps - I think that says - “see you soon” but it could say “I’m a crazy cat woman”, who knows. Doesn’t matter - both work 😉❤️

With so many enquires for sugaring lately we thought we would debunk some common sugaring myths and give you all the low down on the sweet stuff …
What is sugaring?
It might sound like baking, but sugaring is actually a method of hair removal.
Similar to waxing, sugaring removes body hair by quickly pulling the hair from the root. The name for this method comes from the paste itself, which consists of - you guessed it sugar!
✨ Here at Absolute Beauty we exclusively use a pure sugar paste - no added resins, waxes or nasties. ✨
Sugaring ingredients (think sugar and agar) are all heated together until it reaches a candy-like consistency. Once it cools it’s applied directly to the skin. Unlike wax - there is no heat to sugaring. It’s applied at body temperature. No risk of burns with sugaring. This mixture is much more natural and environmentally-friendly than wax, making it a desirable method of hair removal.
How is this different from waxing?
Sugaring may sound similar to waxing, but there’s a key difference: the direction in which hair is pulled.
With waxing, the mixture is applied in the same direction as hair growth and then removed in the opposite direction of hair growth. With sugaring, it’s the exact opposite. The cooled sugar paste is applied against the direction of hair growth and removed in the direction of hair growth. This difference in application can make a big difference in whether there’s any hair breakage.
Because waxing pulls hair out in the opposite direction of growth, hair follicles can easily break in half. It’s also worth noting that sugaring paste doesn’t adhere to the skin, so it only removes hair. Waxing, on the other hand, adheres to the skin and can cause more irritation, skin loss or burns.
✨✨Here at Absolute Beauty we use PURE sugar paste. ✨✨
Some salons advertise sugaring but use “sugar wax” which is just wax with some sugar added so they can add “sugaring” to their treatment menu. Using sugar wax removes all the benefits of sugaring.
What Are the benefits of sugaring?
In addition to a softer, hair-free appearance, sugaring offers other benefits.
First, sugaring provides light exfoliation. The paste adheres to the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin, removing them with the hair to reveal a smoother surface. This exfoliation helps renew the appearance of the skin.
Sugaring causes hair to grow back softer and thinner through continued upkeep. It is safe for diabetics and those with highly sensitive skin. There is no risk of burns and unlike waxing there is no sticky residue! Sugaring is considered less painful than waxing and has less side effects than waxing.
✨✨✨Why choose Absolute Beauty for sugaring? ✨✨✨
Firstly, Absolute Beauty is one of only a handful of salons in Tasmania that offers 100% pure hand mouldable sugar. We don’t use “sugar wax” and your therapist has a decade of experience in hand mouldable sugaring. Whether it’s your Brazilian or your legs, your chin or your underarms, your treatment will be discreet, professional and comfortable.
Once you have experienced the difference between sugaring and waxing you will never return to waxing. In fact our sugar paste is organic and so pure you can eat it - literally by the spoonful if you wanted!

Yep - this is me right now 😭
The wonderful people at Tas Networks have decided to do a planned power outage on the 18th December - yep, one week out from Christmas and our busiest week of the year. ** There are not enough crying or screaming emojis to insert here 😭😭**
So during the busiest week of our year we will have no power for an entire day and as such all our lovely clients on that day will need to be rescheduled. ** Once again there are not enough crying or screaming emojis to insert here 😭😭**
I promise I will do my absolute best to fit everyone back in that week and have already started contacting everyone with an appointment booked that day.
If you have an appointment booked Xmas week (16-20 December) that you think you may not need or be able to make, please let me know ASAP so I can offer it to one of the many ladies on the wait list ❤

Twenty-four years today. Yep 24 years ago I opened the doors to Absolute Beauty.
What a wonderful 24 years it’s been. Lots of awe inspiring therapists I’ve been lucky enough to work with, twenty years of the best clients in the world and adventures, laughs and fun along the way.
Not many people can say they LOVE their job but I can. Everyday I love going to work. To celebrate here’s a throw back picture of a (much) younger me with Napoleon Perdis before walking the red carpet at the ARIA’s. Obviously before spray tans and full brows were a thing…. 😆

Great to see a skincare company being held accountable for false and misleading claims.
Biologi Skincare has been taken to court by the ACCC for claiming it’s Vitamin C Serum contains high levels of Vitamin C. Keep in mind this serum retails for as much as $90 for 15ml! The equivalent of 3 teaspoons for $90…
And it has now been proven there was ZERO, zilch, no Vitamin C in the serum at all.
For twenty years I’ve been advising clients don’t look at the marketing - look at the ingredients. This is why.
Yes, I’m biased. I love Ultraceuticals skincare. But I love it because it’s backed by science and there’s no marketing claims. Your 10% or 23% Vitamin C is guaranteed to contain that Vitamin C and in a form that’s active and accepted by the skin.
All the consumers duped by Biologi Skincare should receive refunds.
Let’s hope this is the start of skincare and make up companies being held accountable in Australia for the claims they make.

And then there were two....!
Hi Ladies,
The salon will be closed for one week from from 5pm today until 5pm next Friday, 19th January.
I will be off climbing my last two Abel Mountains. It has been a long, but fabulously adventurous seven years to reach this point. I am looking forward to celebrating with friends on the last mountain even if its in the rain!
It is still a bit surreal to think that in a week or so (unless something happens between now and then ;P ) I will have climbed all 158 of them.
I won't have any reception for the next seven days but as soon as I return I shall reply to all SMS's and emails.
I want to thank all of you, my lovely clients, for accommodating my random holiday times to traipse the mountains and I look forward to being around a whole lot more regularly now in 2024!
