How many times would we expect a skill to be practiced before someone became proficient? If we can look at emotional regulation and understanding as a skill are we allowing the same amount of practice? You wouldn’t expect to tell them once how to do something and it be just done well, yet I feel this is how so many organisations deal with the mental game. It takes time and it takes reps in an understanding environment. Is that what you are providing? Pro Mindset Academy. Let us help the individual to help the group.
When was the moment in your and your kids life where their sport went from just being about enjoyment to that enjoyment being tied to an expectation of outcome or performance. It’s a shift that happens not only in kids but in coaches and parents as well. Don’t fall into the trap of missing the good things while we are looking for things to be better at!

Had a great night with Souths seniors in Toowoomba. So good to be around groups that genuinely want the best for each other in life not just their sport! Great to have one of my earliest mentors in the group Geoff Wade, have been bonded over footy for more than 40 years! Appreciate Col Speed pushing to get this to go ahead.
How do we help our young athletes escape the shackles of fear of mistakes. They will never know what they are capable of if they hobbled by fear of outcome. A lot of this is self-imposed but also from the adults in their life. Don't confuse what they do on weekends with what you are watching on TV. That is not to say they can't learn the when and where to use certain skills but doing it at training is not the same has being given permission to go out and have at it game day. Let them play so they can give themselves permission to play!
Because you have done something doesn’t mean you can do it under pressure. How often do kids want to show you a new skill only to not be able to nail it. They will say I just did it though!! So in themselves they have applied their own level pressure from expectation. This is common among young sportspeople where the application of the same skill changes under different pressure sets. As parents and coaches we need to be able to give them the space to make the mistake because it means they are trying to level up. Pick any of the greats from any sports and see how many mistakes they still make.

"I can control more than I thought"
"Before working with Grant I was just letting life unfold, I'd never really planned for much. We worked through who I wanted to be, not just what. Understanding the values I'd like to live by, and how not to let emotions get in the way of that, was an important step. The people around me have said I'm more confident and positive since doing this work. The skill and athletic stuff was a very cool way for him to show me how to work through these feelings."
Some feedback from a young guy that I was working with. He was excited by the thought that his future and actions were much more in his control than he believed. It was also time to step into another phase of his life, not something he had discussed with anyone.
Pick a skill a dedicate some time to it. What happens, improvement obviously. So if we can convince ourselves to dedicate some time to various life skills, how much improvement can we make before the tears out?
Regardless of all the rot that is coming at us that is out of our control we could all find multiple things that are fully within our control. Get better at getting better!
I will be in Toowoomba next week. If there any junior clubs, of any sport that would like an introduction to the Pro Mindset Academy way of coaching I will be available Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
This is a walk through of the importance of mindset building for young athletes. Those that might struggle with nerves before or during certain moments in their games.
Also overcoming set backs or mistakes and regaining their confidence.
Are your kids still playing with joy and freedom or are results and outcomes taking the best part of junior sports away?
These are proven steps that will help kids to present the best version of themselves to both training and game day. Let me know here if you would like to discuss further.

You can see them hesitating on the field.
They're not playing freely and with confidence.
There's' something off.
You can tell, they can tell.
But they're not sure how to fix it.
Maybe they're coming back from an injury.
Maybe there's been other adversity, like a not so supportive or positive coach.
Whatever the case you can see something isn't right.
Somethings off.
You want to see them happy again.
Enjoying themselves.
You try to talk with them but it's not really landing.
The don't want to hear it from you.
That's where we come in at Pro Mindset Academy.
When your child's confidence is low.
When they're not playing as well as they can.
And it's affecting their enjoyment.

Very excited to see where this takes me!
Welcoming Coach Grant!
………..
“I am extremely grateful and excited to be partnering with Pro Mindset Academy.
They deliver first class mindset coaching for youth athletes that want to consistently present the best version of themselves.
I was an NRL Game Development Officer in SW Qld for 5 years and then moved to the QRL Wellbeing and Education Team.
In this time I was able to see firsthand the young athletes that were able to conquer the inner voice and those that struggled.
Some naturally have the tools and for others this is as much a skill practice as the sport itself.
During the COVID lockdown period I was part of a team delivering an online mental health programme on behalf of the Movember group.
This gave me the chance to connect with young people and fully appreciate the impact having meaningful conversations can have.
I can’t wait to see the impact PMA has on young athletes on a National and International stage.”

is joining PMA as “Head of QLD”.
