I am not sure what they meant by “stand by it”.

When I am looking at a new/complimentary treatment, such as shock wave therapy.

I look at…

Theory - how can this work?

Science - are there peer reviewed studies that support the use of this therapy? - which normally means that 95% of people that use the treatment get improvements in their clinical score.

So what about... Shock wave therapy…

Theory - Generally for tendon disorders. Theory not fully understood - but possibly causes release of local growth factors to stimulate growth factors and new blood vessels.

Science - Inconclusive - some studies appear to help, some show no difference. The problem is all studies use difference doses, different machines, and different prescriptions so hard to compare. The best data appears to be in calcific tendonitis in the shoulder.

The Golfers Kinetic Chain...
What is the kinetic chain? The kinetic chain describes a system of joints, muscles, tendons acting together as a system of chain links to transfer energy.

In golf... the force generated from your strong lower limb and core is transferred to your shoulder blades, your shoulder joint, your elbow, your wrists... then through to the golf club.

Damage to parts of the kinetic chain, can cause compensatory changes to your golf stroke. This can lead to pain, overload, and ultimately poor golf results.
