Sometimes the trial does exactly what it’s meant to do… helps you figure out what you REALLY want
This gorgeous bride actually loved her trial, but when she tried her dress on afterwards, she felt an updo would show off the dress so much better. So come wedding day, we switched things up and created a completely different hair and makeup look to what we’d originally trialled.
A trial isn’t about locking you into one look. It’s a chance to try things, see how they feel on you, and work out what you love… or what you’d like to change.
Sometimes it’s a tiny tweak. Sometimes we change the lip, add a little more glam or soften the hair.
And sometimes… we change the whole thing!!
I absolutely love where we ended up at and so did she!!
Lip colour can be a funny one
A shade can look PERFECT in the palette or in your inspo photo… then completely different once it’s actually on your lips. Your natural lip colour, skin tone and even the rest of your makeup can change how a lipstick looks once it’s on.
And sometimes, after trying a few different shades, we end up coming right back to a colour you already know and love.
There really are no hard rules with makeup.
If you normally wear a certain lip colour and you feel good in it, don’t feel like you suddenly need to wear something completely different just because it’s a wedding day.
Sometimes your perfect bridal lip is simply the colour that already feels like you.
This one’s for our natural brides- this is your day, there is no hard rule about how your makeup should be on your wedding day.
Gorgeous bride Bethany wanted a natural look, no lashes, no harsh lines, we just accentuated her beautiful features so that she felt like herself on her best day.
Natural makeup is not always less products, it’s about choosing the right products and techniques to ensure you still photograph beautifully but that the look is more soft.

Building a team wasn’t a decision I made lightly. And neither was selecting the girls who would represent my business.
For years, my clients only ever got me. So growing SJ Bridal & Events meant trusting other people with something I’d spent years building, my reputation, my standards, and most importantly, the experience my clients receive.
I knew I didn’t just need talented hair and makeup artists. I needed girls who genuinely cared. Girls who would make our brides feel comfortable, listened to and looked after. Girls I could trust to represent everything I want this business to stand for, even when I’m not in the room.
And THAT is why this review made me well up.

“I didn’t like my bridal trial”….. it happens!
This beautiful girl came in for hair and makeup with us for family photos, but while she was here we got chatting about her bridal trial with a different artist, which unfortunately hadn’t been successful.
I explained to her that sometimes trials can be just as much about figuring out what you don’t want, as what you do want!
I do often find though that it comes down to the consult. After years of working in bridal, you learn the right questions to ask to really understand what someone is wanting and get as close to their dream makeup look as possible.
I’ve never been an artist to ask my clients for a complete step by step of exactly what products and colours they want for everything. In my opinion, that’s why you’ve chosen a professional artist! It’s our job to listen to what you want, guide you on what will work and then do our thing.
So we chatted about what she hadn’t loved about her trial, what she did want her makeup to feel and look like overall, and then I did my thing!
She absolutely loved this look 🤍 And now she has some photos and a much clearer idea of what she does and doesn’t want to take back to her booked bridal artist for her big day.
Even the smallest changes can make ALL the difference, so never be scared to speak up during your trial. I can assure you, our biggest desire is that you walk away absolutely LOVING your bridal makeup!
The silent drive home because we have been overstimulated for hours, the lack of food and drink and need for caffeine and let’s not forget our sore shoulders and back from hours stood in the most un natural positions as well as lugging all our kit!
To all my fellow wedding vendors that help bring a wedding day together, I’m sure you’ll understand this one!
It’s all worth it though when we get to see our brides and grooms have the most incredible day they dreamt of!

Hundred and hundreds of weddings under my belt but I still hold my breath for a few seconds when I hand them the mirror!!!

Every artist has their own style, and none of them are wrong but the best results happen when you choose someone whose work already makes you stop scrolling. Someone whose style already feels like you.
