Your Big Sister and Nurse in One šŸ¤ Reporting on Periods, Progress & Power šŸ«¶šŸ¼

When being treated for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB), it’s the clinician’s aim to improve quality of life and not focus on blood loss alone.

HMB affects up to 25% of women of reproductive age. It can occur alone or in combination with other symptoms. Some of these symptoms I have included in this post.

When being assessed your healthcare provider should also ask questions about symptoms relating to anaemia including excessive fatigue, breathlessness, postural syncope, chest pain and hair loss.

This is your friendly reminder that menstrual bleeding should not interfere with your overall quality of life.

What a journey this petition has been!

From the bottom of my heart it’s been an absolute honour to advocate on behalf of thousands and thousands of Australian’s who are desperately seeking better support, recognition and care.

A special thank you to Darren Chester MP () for standing up and making representations on my behalf to the Hon Mark Butler, Minister of Health and Aging.

Another special thank you to all the individuals + brands who have larger audiences who supported this initiative and shared awareness.

AND most importantly thank you to the 28,434 of you who signed their name on this petition.

I would genuinely love to hear your thoughts on the response, whether they are positive, neutral, or critical. Please leave a comment below or send me a DM. Real experiences and honest conversations are what drive meaningful change.

Love,
Zoe 🩵

Countries such as Spain, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea have already implemented variations of Menstrual Leave policies to support those affected. Australian women also deserve this understanding and person-centred care. Let’s make this change happen.

Let’s talk about birth control… šŸ¤

It can be a complex and sometimes difficult conversation to have, but it’s an important one. Thankfully, in Australia we have access to a wide range of contraceptive options, each with different benefits, costs, levels of effectiveness, and accessibility.

If you’re considering starting contraception, changing methods, or simply wanting to learn more, these slides provide a brief overview of some of the options available through the Australian healthcare system. Everyone’s body, lifestyle, and priorities are different, so what works well for one person may not work the same for another.

If this topic interests you, speak with a trusted healthcare professional, ask questions, and take the time to do your own research so you can make an informed decision that feels right for you ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

And remember when it comes to contraception, every story is different. For some people, finding the right option can be life-changing, improving their quality of life, easing menstrual symptoms, or reducing anxiety around pregnancy. For others, the journey can be frustrating and involve a lot of trial and error before finding the right fit and some people ultimately feel best without hormonal contraception at all.

Save this for later to look back on for when you potentially may need it xx
