Over the weekend I found myself on tattooing pages/groups for artists..
To be honest, I was absolutely shocked at the amount of misinformation I was reading. I was also shocked at the certainty of the information being relayed by artists..
So many people hold on so tightly to what they believe is right vs wrong.
Don’t get me wrong there is absolutely right vs wrong and standards absolutely matter.
The thing is there are also multiple ways to achieve beautiful healed results.
Not every artist tattoos the same.
Not every hand moves the same.
Not every technique feels the same.
Tattooing is artistic.
A lot of artists become so attached to ‘rules’, they stop growing and stop being open minded to change.
What matters is:
• understanding skin
• understanding trauma
• understanding pigment behaviour
• understanding pressure, depth & saturation
• and most importantly..
understanding healed outcomes.
I think one of the biggest things that separates good artists from great artists is the ability to keep learning while staying open minded.
The second you believe your way is the only way, you stop evolving.
Some of the best artists in the world all tattoo completely differently from one another - yet still produce incredible healed work.
Learn from everyone.
Observe everything.
Stay curious.

Posting an up close, matte photo of your work is the equivalent of posting a naked photo.
Why?..
Because you see EVERYTHING 🔎
My one piece of advice for tattooists if you want your work to reach a new level..
Work on making your matte, no gloss work perfect.
I scroll past distanced, glossed photos/videos quicker than a guy saying ‘trust me I’m different’.
Because it doesn’t impress me.
So much work looks good from a distance with gloss.
It’s the up close matte photos that actually get my attention because I can see the artist’s real skill, saturation, blending, symmetry, texture.. everything.
Not saying every post should be matte. Nothing beats a glossed juicy lip 👄
But if you really want to elevate your work - aim to make the matte version perfect 🚀
So many artists get to a point of:
‘that’ll do’
‘that’s enough’
Gloss can hide a magnitude of flaws.
Train your mind to keep improving.
Close enough is not good enough.
