Use this as a cheat sheet on what to avoid when choosing a red light mask..
Seriously, don’t waste your money. Investing in your skin doesn’t have to be so confusing - knowing these things will ensure you get a great mask.
1 - red light at only 630/633nm
If you want a red light wavelength that targets collagen fibroblasts better (= younger skin) look for a deeper wavelength. 665nm is perfect.
2 - only 1 inferred wavelength
Masks with inferred light at 850nm AND
1064nm exist and they are a much stronger investment. Getting a mask with deeper inferred wavelengths is going to mean better wound healing, deeper inflammation control, better circulation and more lymphatic support.
3 - standard LED lights
Most masks use this type of light. It is a less concentrated, scattered and diffused light.
That means less effective at reaching the deeper layers of your skin. If you want a more effective, pinpointed light beam opt for a mask using laser diodes.
4 - no blue light
If you’re buying an at home light therapy mask, you might as well ensure you’re getting the bacteria targeting blue light wavelength at 460nm. This is going to ensure that if you need it, it’s there.
Bacterial breakouts?
Minimised quickly. You may not always need it, but it’s better to have just in case.
5 - spending too much on the mask
Lets face it, the price bracket for masks is large. I’ve seen them be over a thousand Australian dollars and I promise you - you don’t have to spend that much and you can still get top quality.
