You've explained it a hundred times. You've reasoned, you've validated, you've pulled out your calmest voice at 7am and said 'there's nothing to be scared of, sweetheart.' And they cried anyway.

Here's why and it's not because you're doing it wrong. ๐Ÿ’™

Anxiety doesn't live in the thinking brain. It lives in the survival brain, what I call the downstairs brain (the part that runs on instinct, not logic.) When your child is mid-meltdown, refusing school, or sobbing because her socks feel wrong, that downstairs brain has taken the wheel completely. And the downstairs brain cannot hear words.

I see this in my clinic all the time. Beautifully articulate, caring mums who have explained the situation perfectly, offered every reassurance, and watched their child get MORE dysregulated as the conversation goes on. It's not the words. It's the timing.

Think of it this way: you can't talk to someone through a smoke alarm. The alarm has one job, to get you to safety and it doesn't stop because someone explained that the toast is fine. Your child's nervous system is doing the exact same thing. It has detected a threat (real or felt โ€” it cannot tell the difference), and it has sounded the alarm. Talking louder, longer, or more logically doesn't reset it.

What does? Connection before correction. Nervous system first, words second. Your calm, your regulated, settled body is literally the signal your child's brain is waiting for. They borrow calm from you. It's co-regulation, and it's the most powerful tool in the room.

This is the piece that changes everything for the mums I work with. Not a new script. Not a better explanation. Just understanding what's actually happening in that little brain and what it actually needs from you.

Save this one, you'll want to come back to it. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Your anxious child isn't broken. And tonight doesn't have to end in tears.

If bedtime in your house looks like two hours of 'I can't sleep,' 'there's a monster,' 'I need water,' 'I need YOU', I want you to know something before you read another word.

๐ŸŒผ You are not failing. Their nervous system is stuck in survival mode. And no amount of reward charts, melatonin gummies, or firm boundaries will fix a nervous system that hasn't been taught how to land.

In my clinic, I see this every single week. A mum usually running on about four hours sleep and a cold cup of tea, walks in and tells me her child cannot fall asleep alone. Has never fallen asleep alone. Might never fall asleep alone.

And then I tell her the thing that changes everything...

Her child's brain isn't broken. It's PROTECTING.

๐Ÿง  The science says this: when a child's nervous system is activated even by something as ordinary as the quiet darkness of their bedroom โ€” the downstairs brain (the survival brain) takes over completely. The thinking brain, the reasoning brain, the 'everything is actually fine' brain? It goes offline. No amount of logic gets through. Not your reassurance. Not the nightlight. Not the star projector you bought in a 10pm Amazon spiral.

What DOES get through is co-regulation. A calm nervous system nearby, offering safety not solutions.

That's where the CALM framework comes in. It's what I use in my clinic. And it starts tonight.

Not next week. Not when you've read everything. TONIGHT.

๐Ÿ‘ The first step isn't a technique. It's a mindset shift and I've written it out for you in full.

You are not alone in this. ๐ŸŒŸ

Your anxious child is clinging to your leg at a birthday party while every other kid runs straight for the fairy bread.

You smile at the other parents. You whisper 'you'll be fine, baby.' You feel your face go hot.

And quietly, somewhere under the noise of the party, you wonder if you've done something wrong.

๐ŸŒผ You haven't. I promise you that.

Here's what I see in my clinic, over and over again kids who fall apart at parties aren't being dramatic. Their nervous system has just decided that the moment you leave, the world becomes unsafe. Loud rooms. Strangers. No mum. To their downstairs survival brain, that's not a birthday party. That's a threat.

So when we peel them off our leg and say 'go on, it'll be fun!' We mean well. But what we're actually doing is asking a flooded nervous system to swim without a lifeguard.

๐Ÿง  The research on co-regulation is clear: children physically borrow calm from a regulated adult nearby. That means YOUR nervous system is the most powerful tool in that party carpark.

What I tell mums in my clinic โ€” and what I want you to hear right now is this:

You don't need to force the goodbye. You need to anchor it.

A slow breath together before you walk in. A specific, honest, time-based promise when you leave. A goodbye ritual you've practised at home so her nervous system recognises it as SAFE, not final.

That's not permissive parenting. That's nervous system science โ€” and it works.

๐Ÿ‘ If this is your child, save this post. You are not alone in this.

And when you're ready to go deeper โ€” the full framework is waiting for you. ๐ŸŒŸ

Your anxious child isn't asking too many questions.
She's sending you an SOS and most of us have been answering the wrong layer for years.

Last week a mum came to my clinic. She was exhausted in the way that lives behind the eyes. Her eight-year-old had started asking every single night, right as the lights went out 'Mum, what if you die while I'm at school?'

She'd been answering it. Logically. Patiently. 'I'm not going to die, sweetheart. I'm healthy. I'll always be here.'

๐ŸŒผ And every night, her daughter needed to ask it again.

Because reassurance doesn't update the file. It just gives the anxious brain something to hold... until the next time it feels unsafe.

๐Ÿง  Here's what the science tells us: when a child asks a fear-loaded question, they're not actually asking about the content of the question. They're asking 'Is the world safe? Am I safe? Are YOU safe?' Their subconscious is reaching for a regulated nervous system โ€” and it's reaching for YOURS.

So when she asks 'What if no one plays with me?' she doesn't need the answer to that question.
She needs her nervous system to borrow your calm.

This is what I teach inside the CALM framework and it's the moment everything shifts for families in my clinic.

Not 'here's a better answer to give her.'

Here's how to become the answer she needs.

Save this. Read it tonight. And then notice how differently you hear her tomorrow morning.

You are NOT alone in this. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿง  Hypnotherapy isn't magic. It's neuroscience and the brain scan data will make your jaw drop.

For years, a quiet stereotype stole something important from exhausted mums like you: the idea that hypnotherapy was a stage show, a pocket watch, a man in a cape making people cluck like chickens.

I know. I've heard it at school pickup. I've heard it in my clinic waiting room. I've even heard it from the paediatricians who eventually refer to me.

Here's what they don't teach you at the GP:

๐Ÿง  Stanford University ran fMRI studies on people in hypnotic trance. The scans showed measurable changes in the prefrontal cortex (the part of your child's brain responsible for emotional regulation and decision-making). Not imagined changes. Visible ones.

This is why hypnotherapy works faster than talk therapy for anxious kids.

Because anxiety doesn't live in the part of the brain that can hold a conversation.

It lives downstairs; in the survival brain, the amygdala, the part that fires BEFORE your child can find the words for what they're feeling.

๐ŸŒผ Every time they melts down at 7:58am, that is not defiance. That is a nervous system responding to a perceived threat with the only tool it has.

Talking about it afterwards โ€” as loving and well-intentioned as that is โ€” is like trying to explain road rules to someone mid-crash.

The CALM framework works differently. It speaks directly to the nervous system, BEFORE the thinking brain can interfere.

That's not woo-woo. That's exactly what the neuroscience says.

If you want to understand what's actually happening inside your child's brain during a meltdown โ€” and what to do instead of waiting โ€” drop ๐Ÿง  below and I'll point you to where to start.

You don't need to wait for a six-week waitlist to get answers. ๐ŸŒŸ
