I do hair, she does distractions. Perfect balance

At 16, I was a girl with fire in my chest and stars in my eyes. I wasn’t just dreaming — I was planning my destiny.
But growing up in an Albanian household, destiny wasn’t something you chose. It was chosen for you. My dreams clashed with tradition, and every time I reached, I was met with “no.”
And yet, I couldn’t accept “no.” Something deep inside me — call it faith, call it God, call it sheer defiance — turned every rejection into fuel. I didn’t know when or how, but I knew one day I’d carve out the life I saw for myself.
The years that followed weren’t a straight road.
They were a battlefield. I faced heartbreak that nearly broke me. I fought battles that made me question my worth. I endured lessons that scarred me, but also sharpened me.
And somewhere along the way, I realised I wasn’t waiting to “become” myself anymore. I was already building her. Piece by piece, through every fall and every rise, I was creating the woman my younger self always dreamed I’d be.
Now, decades later, I stand as her. Resilient.
Fearless. Free. I live in peace, moving in silence, no longer seeking permission, no longer explaining myself — just being, feeling, owning. This is what freedom feels like
If I could whisper to my younger self, I’d tell her that approval isn’t something you wait for — it’s something you grant yourself. That forgiveness will carry you further than permission ever could. That the journey will hurt, but pain has a way of transforming into power.
I’d tell her that battles don’t just test you, they reveal your truest allies. That life is not happening to you — it is happening for you. Those dreams you carry are not fantasies; they are divine whispers, and your belief in them will be your greatest superpower.
I’d remind her never to shrink to make others comfortable, because when people leave, God will send better. That even the pain that makes no sense now will one day become fuel. That the criticisms you hear are echoes of envy, and the noise around you is only proof of your light.
So, would my younger self be proud of me?
Yes. She’d look at me with wide eyes, stand taller, and say:
“You did it. You became the woman I always knew we could be.”
