Recognising Men’s Health Week

Research shows that men are more likely to delay seeking healthcare.

In Australia, around 1 in 6 men report not seeking care even when they felt they needed it (Australian Institute of Family Studies).

Often, symptoms are noticed early but managed, worked around, or pushed through. Care is more commonly sought once things begin to affect movement, sleep, work, or day to day function.

By this point, issues are more likely to be persistent and take longer to resolve.

This pattern is well recognised in national health data, with delayed help seeking linked to later diagnosis and poorer health outcomes. Early intervention is consistently associated with better results.

Hey guys, Men’s Health Week is a reminder that getting on top of something earlier can make a real difference so please don't delay.

We're lucky to have so many incredible elderly patients coming into the clinic, in various stages of health and mobility and phases of life.

We get to hear incredible stories from their years of travel and life experiences. We have elderly patients with a fashion sense that puts most to shame, perfectly styled hairstyles, and ones that got the tattoos and piercings once they'd retired ✨

We have patients that love coming in with their partners, sitting side by side and chatting as they wait for their practitioner, and others that scoff if we offer to put their appointments back-to-back stating they'd prefer the alone time.

They share their excitement for their kids getting married, or the birth of their grandchildren, the grief of a loved one passing away or being sick in hospital.

In our society elderly people often get forgotten, like at some point they fade into their background, we treat them like their minds have gone even though they've been living here for decades upon decades.

Healthcare sometimes forgets too, there are so many funds and schemes and plans to help older people and yet they're confusing to navigate and set up, even for us at times. And sometimes patients don't even know the care is available to them in the first place.

We do our best to help and educated but often the power lies with people above us.

This is just your reminder to not forget our elderly community, they still have tales to tell, milestones to be excitement by and a right to healthcare that they deeply deserve 💙

📣 PSA LONG POST BUT PLEASE READ 📣

It’s Myotherapy week! As mentioned yesterday we need everyone to give a shout out to their Myotherapist! Lets see how many brilliant Myos are out their doing their best work. We know there are many.Let them know you value their skillset and appreciate their care.

Myotherapy, the new comer to the allied health industry and boy do we feel it.
- Not GST exempt like the rest of allied health
- Not recognised by DVA
- Not recognised by Medicare for chronic disease management plan (although we get many written from a GP- thanks doc!)
-Only recognised as Remedial massage by Worksafe and write management plans for patients with no billable codes in our spare time.
-Private health funds take 6 weeks to provide us with pleasure of a provider number which is shared with remedial massage therapists. So if you move your practice or change jobs it’s a 6 week delay in patients claiming.
- TAC,YES we allow Myotherapy but only if it’s performed by an another allied health professional who isn’t a Myotherapist.
- Tertiary education funding cut due to a drop in numbers entering Myotherapy study, just so happen to coincide with: Myotherapist left jobless during the 13 lockdowns enforced by the Victorian government
- NDIS, can’t give a clear statement of where Myotherapy stands for patients needing access to care.
- Although all of the above Myotherapists are to operate and be employed under the same health professionals award. The same award as our allied health colleagues.
- Must work to the same level of continuing education and hold a variety of hoop jumping checks and insurances as our health colleuges.

All whilst patients choose Myotherapy over and over again and many times in conjunction with specialists, doctors and allied health professionals.

You want us to be professionals, act professional, bound by the same ethics yet because our industry is just getting started and our voices aren’t the loudest at the table it’s like we don’t deserve to be heard?

Our associations work hard for us but collectively we all need to talk a little bit louder about MYOTHERAPY to keep our wonderful industry growing and acknowledged.😮‍💨

It’s Myotherapy week!! Woo hoo!
Actually it was two weeks ago…but one of our lovely team was away on holidays so we had to wait for her to be back to celebrate properly.

This week we are celebrating our Myotherapy industry and our Myotherapists!

Our team of Myos are: Daniel, Jodie, Laura & Nat, some call us the fantastic four 🙊 other nicknames we get:
- Magic fingers 🫰🪄
- Sadists 😈
- Muscle whisperers 🤫
But all in all we are helpers for your muscle pain.

Individually we all have very different backgrounds of study, have our own niches and quirks the way we approach patients but the outcome, your outcome is what we focus on the most.

We love working as team, we bounce ideas around, approach continuing education together, read journals and always share patient stories in particularly those that have seen a long journey come to a close.

It’s a real privilege to have 4 Myotherapists in this space, it’s not very common (more about this in a coming post) but a team that is the forefront to managing patients muscle pain and dysfunction.

If you see a fab Myo please give them a shout out here or send them a little hello and thank you this week, we know they will appreciate the love and our industry needs all the exposure it can get.

You show up every day with care, patience, and commitment, often in busy and high stress environments. The way you support people through difficult moments, while still bringing kindness and calm, makes a real difference.

We love nurses and feel so grateful for everything you do.

You are seen. You are valued. And the work you do matters always.

Our Myotherapists are so excited to be caring for you today and giving a little back to those who give so much.

Mums are magic, this much is true,
They fix, they help, they see us through.

They juggle a million things each day,
Yet still find time to laugh and play.
