Do you know what you DON’T get in Aika moisturiser balms? Ingredients that DAMAGE your skin - preservatives, emulsifying agents, fattening agents, alcohol compounds, PEG compounds, silicones, synthetic compounds, synthetic perfumes, colouring agents. These ingredients irritate, sensitise and damage your skin barrier. The same preservative system in a conventional moisturiser formula YES even if it is organic also kills off the bacteria in your skin that is part of your skin’s natural flora or microbiome and a vital part of your skin’s defence system. The emulsifiers damage your lipid barrier called the “wash-out” effect - dissolving your skin’s natural lipid barrier literally washing it away when you next have water on your skin. This causes dryness and trans epidermal water loss. IRONIC isn’t it when these same conventional moisturisers are supposed to hydrate your skin!

You shouldn’t put it on your skin if you if you cannot eat it. This is an Ayurvedic skincare teaching which was first written about in the west by Ayurvedic physician Dr Pratima Raichur in her ground breaking book ‘Absolute Beauty’ nearly 30 years ago.

This Ayurvedic skincare teaching is being used as a marketing tool often by white western beauty companies without any connection to Ayurveda or South East Asia. Worse, from my research their products in almost all cases contain ingredients that I absolutely would not want myself or you eat!

As the world is gripped in the madness inflicted by a lunatic in power and I sit watching in horror as events have unfolded, feelings of helplessness wash over me. I grieve for our beautiful, fragile and precious world, the thousands of innocent lives lost and refuse to be immobilised by this feeling of powerlessness. I focus on what I can do however small, no matter how insignificant, as my personal offering to ease the suffering in this world. We are each but one small flame however, collectively standing in solidarity together for our love of humanity we can be the roaring illuminating light that heals the world. So I offer you these two prayers in the heart most wish that they may offer you some solace, some inspiration, some peace in your day as they have offered me.
