Spending hundreds on skincare that doesn’t seem to be helping your skin? The answer may lay in your Barrier Function.

Our Skin Barrier is made up of several components such as your Acid Mantle, Natural Moisturising Factors, and Microbiome. When this gets disrupted or “impaired”, your skin can experience many different side effects. It can look like Dryness from Transepidermal Water Loss, Sensitivity and Reactivity to products even the gentle ones, increased Surface Texture, More inflammation, Dull looking Skin, Breakouts and Flakiness. You can experience them all at once or only some depending on everyone’s skin.

So if you are using products that don’t seem to be fixing your concern - it may be because your Skin Barrier is Impaired.
Good Skin starts with Good Barrier Function, and luckily we have the treatments and products to fix that.

Let’s talk essential fatty acids — and why they matter for your skin.

Despite the name, essential fatty acids aren’t something our body can produce on its own. We need to obtain them through food.

The two essential fats are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. They’re involved in important processes throughout the body, including cell structure, normal inflammatory pathways and maintaining healthy skin function.

So, why might we not always get the balance we need?

Modern diets can make it easy to consume plenty of certain fats while getting less variety of omega-3-rich foods. Omega-3s are naturally found in foods such as oily fish, seafood, flaxseeds, chia seeds and walnuts - foods that aren’t necessarily part of everyone’s daily diet.

And when it comes to skin, fatty acids are particularly interesting. The skin barrier relies on lipids to help maintain its structure and reduce water loss. When the barrier is functioning well, skin can appear more comfortable, supple and hydrated.

DMK EFA Ultra provides a combination of omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids, along with ingredients including sea buckthorn oil, evening primrose oil, coconut oil and Mekabu seaweed extract.

Rather than thinking of essential fatty acids as simply a “beauty supplement”, think of them as nutrients that support the foundations of healthy cells, skin and overall cellular function.

And remember: supplements work best alongside a varied, nutrient-rich diet — they’re there to complement your nutrition, not replace it.

Healthy skin is a combination of what you put ON your skin and how you nourish your body FROM WITHIN.
