“I want natural makeup” is one of the most common things I hear from a client sitting in my chair.
Then the reference photos come out, and it’s soft glam, full glam, sometimes (often) an AI-filtered picture. This is why I always ask to see photos before we start, so I know what natural actually means to the person in front of me.
For many people I find, natural just means it shouldn’t look drag or clown-like. Real natural makeup is barely anything on the skin, with a slight lift to the eyes and no smokey liner (definitely no smokey eye).
This is what I would call Natural glam 🤍 Sophia had been looking after her skin so well in the lead up to her formal, and she wanted almost nothing on her base and feel completely herself. We mixed Dior Backstage with Rhode glazing milk to build a skin tint that could hold up through the day and into the night.
A look this minimal still took an hour and fifteen minutes.
Getting skin to look like skin takes just as much time as building a full face, even if the result looks like nothing was done at all.
I love doing this style of makeup, she is absolutely glowing ✨
