Monday melanoma myths: If you have olive skin, you won't get melanoma. False! Melanoma doesn't discriminate, regardless of your skin tone.

Melanomas are not always dark in colour. Certain melanomas, called “amelanotic melanoma”, may have no color at all.

These unpigmented melanomas may be pinkish-looking, reddish, purple, normal skin color or essentially clear and colorless.

While these melanomas lack pigment, they may have other melanoma warning signs to stay on the lookout for, such as asymmetry and an irregular border.

Thursday tip: there are a wide range of SPF50+ broad spectrum suncreens available in Australia. Your choice of sunscreen is personal - the best sunscreen for you is the one that you're going to use! All sunscreens sold in Australia have the tick of approval from the TGA.

Monday melanoma myth: you need to sunbake to ensure you get enough Vitamin D.

Not True!

Vitamin D ensures musculoskeletal health, and UVB radiation from the sun helps Vitamin D synthesis in the skin.

However, in Australia, particularly in the summer months, a few minutes of incidental sun exposure while completing everyday tasks, should be enough to support adequate Vitamin D synthesis, you definitely don't need to deliberately expose yourself to the sun for the purpose of getting some more Vitamin D
