Have you seen the posts claiming “Ozempic causes collagen loss”? Let’s clear up the confusion.

The current evidence does NOT show that GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro) directly destroy collagen.

What they DO do is help people lose weight. When weight loss happens quickly, we don’t just lose fat from our waistline—we can also lose fat from our face. This loss of facial volume can make the skin appear looser, lines more noticeable, and create the impression that collagen has disappeared. This is why you’ve probably heard the term “Ozempic face.”

It’s important to remember that ageing, collagen loss and changes in facial volume are all natural processes that continue over time. Rapid weight loss can simply make these changes more noticeable.
