❄️ Why does arthritis often feel worse in winter?
If your joints seem stiffer, achier, or more painful during the colder months, you're certainly not alone.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, winter is associated with the Kidney system, which is thought to nourish the bones, joints, and lower back. As temperatures drop, cold and damp weather can slow the flow of Qi and Blood through the body, making pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility more noticeable.
Common signs include:
- Stiff joints, especially first thing in the morning
- Pain that's worse in cold or damp weather
- Aching knees, hips, hands, shoulders, or lower back
- Symptoms that improve with warmth and gentle movement
Rather than focusing only on the painful joint, TCM looks at the underlying pattern contributing to your symptoms. Every treatment is tailored to the individual and may include:
✨ Acupuncture to support circulation, ease pain, and reduce muscle tension.
🔥 Moxibustion to gently warm cold, stiff joints.
🌿 Chinese herbal medicine to address your underlying pattern.
💆 Cupping or soft tissue therapy to relieve surrounding muscle tension where appropriate.
🥗 Lifestyle and dietary advice to help keep you warm, mobile, and supported throughout winter.
Many people find that regular TCM treatment helps them move more comfortably, manage pain, and stay active throughout the colder months.
As we head into the final month of winter, now is the perfect time to give your joints a little extra care. ❄️
Have you noticed your joints feeling stiffer in the cold? We'd love to hear about your experience below. 🤝

Winter often asks something different of us than the rest of the year.
Yet many of us continue to move at the same pace, pushing through fatigue and expecting ourselves to keep up as if nothing has changed.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is the season of conservation. It's a time to preserve our energy, support recovery, and strengthen the foundations that sustain our health throughout the year. Just as nature slows down, we're invited to do the same.
Honouring winter doesn't mean doing nothing - it means choosing what truly supports you.
This might look like:
❄️ Prioritising rest.
❄️ Slowing down without guilt.
❄️ Eating nourishing, seasonal foods.
❄️ Creating consistency over perfection.
❄️ Listening to what your body is asking for.
When we work with the season instead of against it, we create space for restoration, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.
If you're feeling run down, low in energy, or like your body needs a little extra support, Traditional Chinese Medicine can help you understand your unique patterns and restore balance.
We're here to support you through the rest of winter and beyond. 🤍
What is one way you're slowing down or caring for yourself this winter?

Winter often asks something different of us than the rest of the year.
As we come towards the end of the 2nd month of winter it's a great time to check in. Many of us continue to move at the same pace, pushing through fatigue and not truly listening to what we need at this time of year.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is the season of conservation. It's a time to preserve our energy, support recovery, and strengthen the foundations that sustain our health throughout the year. Just as nature slows down, we're invited to do the same.

As we move deeper into winter across Australia, nature encourages us to slow down, reflect inward, and become more intentional with how we use our energy.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) , winter is associated with the Water Element and is considered a season of conservation. While modern life often encourages us to maintain the same pace year-round, TCM recognises that each season has its own rhythm. Winter is not a season for pushing harder, it is a season for preserving resources, supporting recovery, and protecting the foundations of long-term health.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fertility is not only about the reproductive organs, it’s about creating an environment where the whole body is nourished and in balance.
Key areas to focus on:
• Nourish blood to support a healthy menstrual cycle
• Strengthen Kidney Jing (essence) - the body’s foundational reserve associated with fertility, growth and reproduction.
• Supporting Qi to provide nourishment for healthy reproductive function
• Balance Yin and Yang to create harmony through the menstrual cycle
• Promote the smooth flow of Qi and Blood to reduce stagnation
Focusing on Nourishing foods and implementing TCM inspired daily habits and practices can all help to support fertility ✨
