Nursing is so much more than a career - it’s compassion, strength, trust, resilience and care during some of the most vulnerable moments in people’s lives.
I became a nurse as a mature aged student at 29 years old, with two children and an already busy life. There were long days, late nights, sacrifices, self doubt and exhaustion… but I was determined to make it happen. Finishing my degree with a distinction average remains one of my proudest achievements.
Throughout my hospital and GP career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some truly incredible nurses. Nurses who taught me, supported me, inspired me and showed me what it really means to care for people. Together we’ve experienced joy, heartbreak, loss, pressure and moments that stay with you forever. Those experiences shape you - they build skill, knowledge, resilience and the ability to care deeply while remaining strong.
Nurses are often the calm in someone’s chaos, the hand to hold in difficult moments, the advocate, the educator and the support people remember long after they leave our care.
I am endlessly proud to be a nurse and incredibly grateful for the amazing nurses I’ve met and learned from along the way.
