WELLNESS TRENDS THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TERRIBLE FOR YOUR HORMONES 👀
Just because it’s trending in the wellness world doesn’t mean your hormones are loving it.
🧊 Cold plunging when you’re already stressed + exhausted
Another hormetic stressor isn’t always what an already overloaded nervous system needs.
🥤 Cold-pressed juice “detoxes”
Fruit and veggies? Amazing. Living on juice for days with barely any protein, fat or fibre? Your body deserves better.
⏰ Joining the 5AM club at the expense of sleep
Getting up at 5am isn’t a health flex if you went to bed at midnight. Sleep is one of the most underrated foundations for hormonal and metabolic health.
🍽️ Extreme calorie deficits
Eating less and less isn’t always the answer. Chronically under-fuelling can affect energy, thyroid signalling, reproductive hormones, recovery and your menstrual cycle. This includes restricting carbs!
⏳ Fasting because the internet told you to
Fasting can work well for some people, but longer isn’t automatically better — especially if you’re training hard, under-eating, sleeping poorly or already feeling stressed and depleted.
🏋🏼♀️ Training harder when your body is asking for recovery
More HIIT. More cardio. More steps. More classes. Sometimes the thing moving your health forward is actually adequate food, strength training and REST.
Your hormones don’t care how aesthetic your morning routine is.
They care about the basics:
Enough food.
Enough protein.
Enough sleep.
Blood sugar stability.
Movement + strength.
Recovery.
And not treating your body like a never-ending self-improvement project.
Wellness should support your physiology — not become another stressor. 🤍
And yes, context matters. Cold exposure, fasting and calorie deficits aren’t inherently “bad” — it’s the dose, timing and the person they’re being prescribed to that matters. If you want help forming an individualised effective plan to support your hormones you can book a consultation with me via the link in my profile’

Most of us left school knowing the basics of periods and pregnancy… but very little about what actually happens across the menstrual cycle.
Your cycle isn’t just your period.
There are FOUR phases:
🩸 Menstrual
🌱 Follicular
✨ Ovulatory
🌙 Luteal
And across those phases, oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone fluctuate—which can influence things like your mood, energy, sleep, appetite, cognition and even how you feel when you train.
Which explains why you might feel motivated, social and ready to take on the world one week…
…and then wonder why everyone is suddenly SO ANNOYING the next. 😂
Your cycle can give you useful clues about your overall health, too. Changes in cycle length, bleeding, ovulation patterns or premenstrual symptoms can sometimes be signs worth paying attention to.
Imagine if we were taught to understand these patterns from the beginning instead of spending years wondering why we don’t feel exactly the same every day of the month.
Maybe it’s time we started teaching girls about their hormones BEFORE they have to Google them at 35. 👀
Save this if you wish you’d learnt more about your cycle at school.
I just got a DEXA scan in my 40s… and here’s why 👇🏼
We hear a LOT about muscle, metabolism and hormones in our 40s — but we don’t talk nearly enough about bone health.
Our 40s are actually a really valuable time to understand where our bone density is sitting — particularly as we head towards perimenopause and menopause.
Why? Because oestrogen plays an important role in protecting bone, and as oestrogen becomes more erratic and eventually declines, bone loss can accelerate.
I didn’t want to wait until my 50s or 60s to find out where I stood.
I wanted a baseline now.
A DEXA can give you information about your bone mineral density and help identify whether there’s anything worth addressing before it becomes a bigger issue.
And the things we do NOW matter:
🏋🏼♀️ Resistance training
🦴 Impact/loading exercise where appropriate
🥛 Adequate calcium
☀️ Vitamin D
🥩 Enough protein
🍽️ Actually eating enough
🚭 Not smoking
🩺 Addressing hormonal or other medical risk factors
For me, this isn’t about being scared of ageing.
It’s about going into the next few decades strong, informed and proactive.
5 things that have changed my life in the most incredible way over the past few months…
1. I stopped guessing and started testing.
I finally invested in understanding what was actually going on in my body through blood tests and functional hormone testing (including a DUTCH test). Having answers changed everything.
2. I created space to reconnect with myself.
Instead of constantly doing, I slowed down. Journaling, reflecting, and getting really honest about what I wanted helped me find clarity again.
3. I changed what I focused on.
Daily affirmations, looking for life’s little glimmers, and choosing gratitude over scarcity has completely shifted my mindset. What you focus on really does grow.
4. I gave myself permission to truly rest.
Not just sleep—but reading, walking, sitting in the sunshine, cuddling my cat, saying no without guilt, and doing things that fill my cup. Rest is productive too.
5. I started CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).
Learning to recognise unhelpful thought patterns and respond to them differently has been one of the best investments I’ve ever made in my mental health.
None of these changes happened overnight. They were small, consistent steps that slowly added up to a life that feels calmer, happier, and so much more aligned.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’ve lost yourself… maybe you don’t need to do more. Maybe you just need to start with one small change. I can help you. Book a consultation with me via the link in my profile.
If I woke up with hormonal acne tomorrow (but let’s be honest, hormonal acne doesn’t happen overnight!), I wouldn’t start by buying another skincare product.
I’d start by asking why.
Hormonal acne is often a sign that something deeper may be going on. It can be influenced by hormones, blood sugar, stress, gut health, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, genetics, and even certain medications.
Your skin is giving you information—it deserves more than a quick fix.
As a naturopath, I focus on identifying the underlying drivers and creating a personalised plan, because no two people with acne have the same story.
Clearer skin rarely comes from treating the symptom alone. It comes from understanding what’s happening beneath the surface.
Tell me in the comments—where do you tend to break out most? Jawline, chin, cheeks or forehead?

How I am healing from burnout ❤️🩹
As a naturopath, I knew the research around burnout. I knew the supplements. I knew what I would recommend to a client. But experiencing burnout myself taught me something I couldn’t learn from a textbook.
Healing wasn’t about finding one miracle supplement. Instead it looks like:
✨ Prioritising sleep instead of productivity.
✨ Learning to challenge the beliefs that kept me overworking.
✨ Setting boundaries without feeling guilty.
✨ Moving my body on a loving way consistently because it makes feels good
✨ Spending more time doing things that filled my cup.
✨ Accepting that healing isn’t linear.
✨ Using targeted herbs and nutrients to support my nervous system—while recognising they were only one piece of the puzzle.
Burnout isn’t just physical. It’s emotional, mental and behavioural too.
The biggest lesson?
You can’t supplement your way out of a lifestyle that’s constantly draining you but they can absolutely help.
Recovery comes from supporting my body and changing how I lived, worked and spoke to myself. If you are experiencing burnout, there is so much you can do to support yourself naturally. I’m here to help. Book your consultation via the link in my profile.

Ovulation matters more than you think 👀
Most women are told their cycle is just about getting a period…
But ovulation? That’s where the magic actually happens.
✨ It’s when your body produces progesterone (your calm, grounded hormone)
✨ It supports mood, sleep, metabolism & thyroid health
✨ It’s essential for bone strength and long-term hormone balance
✨ And yes — it’s a key sign your body feels safe enough to thrive
👉 No ovulation = no true hormonal balance
Even if you’re bleeding every month
So if you’re dealing with:
– PMS
– heavy or painful periods
– anxiety or mood swings
– irregular cycles
– or feeling completely off hormonally
There’s a good chance ovulation isn’t happening optimally (or at all)
This is exactly why I look beyond “normal” blood tests in clinic
Because you deserve real answers — not guesswork
I’ve just dropped a new blog breaking this all down about why ovulation matters more than you think (and how to support it naturally)
