I’m so proud to officially be a part of Sustainable Salons ♻️🤍

The hair industry creates an enormous amount of waste every single year, with millions of foils, colour tubes, plastics, chemicals and hair clippings ending up in landfill. Through Sustainable Salons, up to 95% of salon waste can now be recovered, recycled or repurposed instead.

So what actually happens to salon waste?

HAIR CLIPPINGS
Hair swept from the salon floor is collected and turned into “hair booms” which are absorbent mats and tubes that help soak up oil spills in oceans and waterways. Hair naturally absorbs oil, making it an incredible renewable resource instead of landfill waste.

FOILS + METALS
Used foils, colour tubes and metal containers are recycled and remade into new aluminium products, using up to 95% less energy than producing new aluminium. The proceeds from recycling metals also help provide meals through OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest.

PONYTAIL DONATIONS
Ponytails 20cm+ can be donated and turned into wigs for people experiencing medically induced hair loss, cancer or alopecia. And no it doesn’t have to be virgin hair!!

CHEMICAL WASTE
Instead of excess colour and chemicals being rinsed into waterways, they are safely collected, neutralised and transformed into recycled water that can later be used in construction, manufacturing and community spaces.

PLASTICS + PAPER
Salon plastics are cleaned and upcycled into new products like outdoor furniture and other reusable items, while paper and cardboard are recycled back into circulation instead of landfill.

For me, becoming a Sustainable Salon and bringing making a positive environmental impact in our beautiful town Mudgee was about creating a business that aligns with my values. Beautiful hair, but with more intention and less environmental impact. I wanted my space to feel calm, conscious and responsible, knowing that even the smallest changes across our industry can create a huge difference over time 🌿

Still pinching myself that this is real!! 💌

After years of dreaming about having a space of my own since starting my hairdressing career, I finally have the keys to my very own salon.

When this space became available, everything just aligned. It felt right from the moment I walked in, and I knew I had to take the leap.

I wanted to create something different to the usual salon experience! A quiet, intimate space with just me. No busy salon energy, no rushing, just a calm and welcoming environment where you can truly relax, unwind, and feel looked after while getting your hair done.

This little space is a reflection of everything I’ve always envisioned for my clients and my business, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited (and grateful) to finally bring it to life!

There’s still a lot of setting up to do before opening, so for now I’ll still be working from my current salon while I get everything ready behind the scenes. I’ll be sharing the whole process along the way and announcing more details soon, including my official opening date.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, and I can’t wait to welcome you into my new space 🤎

Dry scalp isn’t always just “dry skin”, sometimes your everyday habits could be contributing without you even realising.

A few things that may help reduce dryness, flakes or irritation:

🚿 Hard water can leave mineral build up on the scalp. A shower filter may help reduce this.

💧 Leaving hair wet for too long after washing can sometimes irritate the scalp environment.

🫧 Over washing or under washing can both throw your scalp off balance depending on your skin type, lifestyle & products used.

🧴 Incorrect products may strip the scalp or create irritation if they’re too heavy, too harsh or not suited to your needs.

✨ Styling product build up can clog the scalp and lead to discomfort or flakes over time.

🧼 Not rinsing thoroughly can leave shampoo, conditioner or oils sitting on the scalp.

🩺 And sometimes, dry scalp can also be linked to other factors like stress, hormones, inflammation, autoimmune conditions or overall health.

Just a reminder, I’m a hairdresser, not a doctor 🤍
This advice comes from hair & scalp knowledge within the salon industry. If symptoms persist, worsen or become uncomfortable, seeking medical advice is always recommended.

This refresh is delicious! Still working with the natural colour for a soft and seamless grow out! Perfect example of less is more, this colour was created with just a scattered half head of strategically placed foils anda beautifully glossy toner to add shine 🫧
