You might think you need more bookings.

But if your business already feels chaotic, more clients can sometimes just mean more to remember, more to chase and more to hold in your head.

That’s why I’m looking at the business underneath the bookings too.

Where are people dropping off?

What still relies on you remembering it?

What could be mapped, automated or made easier?

And what genuinely still needs you?

Because growth should not mean adding more mental load every time your calendar gets busier.

Your business needs systems that can support the growth you’re asking for.

Comment SYSTEM and I’ll show you where I’d start 🩷✨

For years, a quiet patch in my diary made me feel like I needed to do more immediately.

Post more. Promote more. Network harder. Fill the gaps.

Because when you’re self-employed, an empty calendar can start to feel like proof that something’s wrong.

After 20+ years, I’ve learnt there are natural rhythms to this industry. The biggest shift was learning the difference between a normal quiet period and an actual business problem.

Instead of panicking, I started looking at the evidence:

Is this usually a quieter time of year?

Are enquiries down, or just not converting?

Where did my income come from this time last year?

What patterns can I actually see?

Once I understood my business better, I could plan before the quiet periods arrived - financially, with marketing, and with other types of work where it made sense.

You don’t need seven income streams or a permanently full diary.

You need to understand the rhythms of your business well enough to stop being blindsided by them.

The goal isn’t to eliminate every quiet season. It’s to know what’s normal, what needs attention, and when you actually need to act.

One innocent client message and suddenly you’ve cancelled the wedding, refunded the deposit and reconsidered your entire career before she’s even finished typing 😂

Our brains are very good at filling in missing information - especially when we’re already stressed, busy or carrying a lot.

The important part is learning to notice the difference between what actually happened and the story you’ve attached to it.

A ghosted quote doesn’t automatically mean you’re too expensive.

A quiet week doesn’t mean your business is failing.

One underperforming post doesn’t mean your content is broken.

Sometimes you simply don’t have the full story yet.

What’s one message that instantly sends your brain into overdrive?

No Michelin star chef has ever been asked to justify their knife collection before someone takes a bite. 🤯 The proof is in the food. Always has been. So why is the perception so different in our industry?

Because somewhere along the way, the beauty industry figured out how your brain actually works - and built an entire business model around it. And I mean that literally.

Your brain runs on dopamine, the chemical of anticipation and seeking. It fires BEFORE you get the product, not after.

When you're scrolling a new launch, screenshotting, adding to cart - every single step is a dopamine hit.

Then it arrives, and within days (sometimes hours, soz 🤭) your brain's already hunting for the next thing.

Your brain does exactly what it was designed to do - and an entire industry profits from it.

Kinda like a slot machine that gives you a receipt and calls it professional development. 💯

But here's what the loop is actually costing you. Every hour spent researching the next launch is an hour that didn't go towards showing up as yourself online, building the thing that would ACTUALLY move your business forward.

My clients have never once asked what’s in my kit before booking me, they book me because of what happens when they're in my chair - and nothing I add to my cart is going to change that.

Your eye, Your instinct, Your ability to read a face and know exactly what's going to make someone look like the best version of themselves. That's your kitchen. It was never in your kit. 🙌🏻

If you've been stuck in the loop and wondering why the momentum still isn't coming - you're in the right place.

💗 Save this for the next time a new drop has you convinced your kit isn't enough.
❤️ Share it with another artist who needs this today.

Having a few email templates doesn’t automatically mean you have a system.

A real system knows what happens when the client takes a different path.

→ She forgets information.
→ She doesn’t reply.
→ She books.
→ She doesn’t book.
→ Her questionnaire is overdue.
→ Something needs following up.

And instead of YOU remembering, checking and deciding every next step manually, the process is already mapped.

That’s why I always start with the system first.

Then we can layer in automation and AI where they genuinely make the business lighter.

Because the goal isn’t to get better at remembering everything.

It’s to build a business that remembers more for you.

One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is that we’ll do “the thing” once we feel confident enough.

I’ll put myself forward for that job when I’m more confident.

I’ll contact that photographer when my portfolio is better.

I’ll raise my prices when I have a bigger following.

I’ll start showing up properly when I loose weight.

But your brain doesn’t necessarily build confidence that way.

Confidence is partly built through evidence.

Every time you do something you weren’t completely sure you could do, and you survive it, figure it out, get better at it or realise you were actually far more capable than you thought, you give your brain another piece of evidence to work with.

I did that,I fixed that issue, maybe I CAN do this.

And slowly, what once felt unfamiliar starts to feel less threatening.

That’s one of the beautiful things about neuroplasticity. Your brain is constantly learning from what you repeatedly experience, which means sometimes the action has to come before the belief catches up.

I look back at some of the work I’ve created over almost 20 years as a Makeup Artist, and I can promise you, I wasn't standing behind every one of those faces thinking, “hell yes! I am absolutely confident enough to be here” 😂

I still questioned myself!, Compare myself and wondered whether I was good enough for the opportunity in front of me.

But I do it anyway!

And every one of those experiences became another little piece of evidence.

So if you’re waiting to finally feel confident enough before you put yourself forward, charge more, try something different, create the work you actually want to create or take up a little more space in this industry…

Maybe confidence isn’t the thing you need to find first.

Maybe you need to give your brain some new evidence. 💗

As Nike would say - JUST DO IT!

When an MUA tells me what’s going wrong in her business, I rarely listen to just the sentence.

I’m looking at the patterns around it.

→ What keeps getting missed.
→Where things feel heavier than they should.
→What keeps happening on repeat.
→And what the business is asking YOU to carry manually.

That’s the part I’m interested in! Because sometimes the most useful thing isn’t another tip......

It’s having someone look at the whole picture with fresh eyes.

And, that’s exactly what I do inside my Business Audit!

How much of your business is living in your head right now, relying on YOU to remember everyone’s requests and what needs to happen next?

“Did she pay her deposit?”
“I need to reply to that enquiry.”
“Whose trial is coming up?”
“Did I send her prep notes?”
“Was there something I was meant to do today?”

For YEARS, I genuinely thought this was just part of running a makeup business.

Lying in bed at night with my mind racing, always feeling like there was something I was forgetting, even when I couldn’t remember what the something was 😂

You finish your clients, close the laptop, sit down on the sofa… but somehow your business is still sitting there in your head with you.

Not anymore!

Now I make my coffee, sit down at my desk and have a morning brief waiting for me, telling me exactly what needs my attention, who I need to follow up and what’s coming up.

Not because I magically became an organised person overnight 😂 My brain is still my brain.

I just stopped expecting my brain and nervous system to be the operating system for my entire business.

I built systems that remember for me instead! 😝🙌🏻

Yes, it saves me time, but the biggest difference has been the headspace. I’m not mentally carrying every client, task and loose end around with me because my business tells me what I need to know, when I need to know it.

I’ve been helping the MUAs I coach build this kind of structure into their businesses too, and it’s made me realise how many makeup artists are quietly carrying WAY too much in their heads.

So I’ve been working on something behind the scenes for you 👀

An operating system created specifically for makeup artists, by a makeup artist who knows exactly how many tiny moving parts come with this job.

If you want to grow a successful, fulfilling makeup business without your brain having to remember every bloody thing required to run it, comment SYSTEM and I’ll send you the details when it’s ready.

You might think you need more bookings, but I’m looking at what’s happening before, during and after someone books you!

→ Are the right people seeing you?
→ Are enquiries converting?
→ Is your client journey working?
→ Are you carrying everything around in your head?
→ Or are you simply working harder on the wrong problem?

After 20+ years in the industry, I know the loudest problem isn’t always the one that needs fixing first.

→ Sometimes you need more visibility.
→ Sometimes better systems.
→ Sometimes stronger boundaries.

The first step is working out what’s actually getting in the way.

If this sounds like you let's start the conversation 🫶
