For drier limbs. For when your hot shower has melted your natural oils away. A Body Wash that’s a soft emulsion and not a foaming gel. We know Milk Cleansers for the face but for the body most of us use soaps even though the skin on our arms and legs can be the driest of all. This soft creamy wash cleans and rinses while laying down a clean fresh amount of oils to keep hydration in the skin steady. It feels soft and velvety in your fingers and smells of the Australian bush. A missing link for many of us perhaps?

Luminous 15% our vitamin face cream we are so well known for. The face cream that surprises people. The face cream you don’t get tired of using. It’s your daily helpful companion giving you that “great skin day” everyday. A moisturizer you’ll really love. How long since you’ve really loved your face cream?
Luminous 15% day. We waited anxiously for more Calendula to arrive today. We had used what we had for handcream the other day. The emulsion for Luminous was made and cooling waiting for the temperature to drop to levels we could add different ingredients hoping it wouldn’t cool too much before calendula arrived. Pacing around, checking the deliveries box, checking the temperature of Luminous then finally we hear a big truck pull up and yes it had arrived. Quickly cutting the box open and weighing it out adding it just in time while the big pot of Luminous was still hot enough to melt it. Phew.
Ahhhhhh lovely Calendula. Extracted from a Marigold variety, Calendula is intensely yellow and very very concentrated. But it’s difficult physical properties are so very much outweighed by its ability to calm, soothe itching, help a wound heal, be an antiseptic, anti fungal and an analgesic. If you’ve bought an intensely helpful calming product from us it’s likely we’ve made it with this. It smells like fresh collected hay and its sunny yellow colour always makes us feel happy. Calendula is in our Baby Balm, Hand Cream, Luminous, 000 Salve, Baby Wash and ni**le balm. Happily keeping your skin normal and calm, clear of redness and relieving itches that send you round the twist. Thought you’d like to see what it looks like.
The iconic Redhead matches. These have been in our lives since we were born. Always the same. They were the first to use red phosphorus rather than white. The red ignites with a small spark whereas the white had a much bigger spark which was problematic. The red tips made them a hit straightaway and as such they are still our goto today. Empty matchboxes as a kid were sought after items. They carried little treasures around or made cute little beds for small stuffed animal toys or those tiny babies or even toy soldiers. Anyhow for today they are lighting candles for our Woods and Meadows Raw Incenses which is making the carpeted walkway at Westfield Kotara smell rather lovely. A wintering scent.

Wintering. I’m a believer in this concept. When I lived in southern WA winter was a big distinct change. We went out into allocated firewood forests and collected wood. A big day where a picnic was packed and everyone worked hard. We did winter things like keeping the fireplace going, chopping wood, harvesting Broccoli and cauliflower (full of moths 😁). On Sundays we might light the open fire. The fireplace kept my morning tea warm while I did morning chores and we managed kids, hot water consumption and leaking roofs when it really poured. Winter had a distinct busy life. But here in a more urban setting it’s harder to make it distinct. So wintering here becomes a determined attitude. Today I served more than a few people who were feeling a little defeated and perhaps this last week I have been feeling that too. So let’s get wintering. What does that look like for me? Firstly I go for a walk to find my nearest gumtree and cut off a big bunch of branches. I fill a big vase with them and put them in my living room. I’ve bought some fresh greenery inside. Next I replace my plain candles and light them. I put The Woods on (it’s my favorite). I organize a games night with the family. Buy ingredients for two wintery meals ahead of time. Go to some food markets, put gum boots on. Make an apple pie. Go for a night time walk in my local neighborhood. Buy my favorite port, take some on my walk. Go to bed early and read a book. Take a bath, get all the goods out to use in there. Use something like Resplendent that brings me joy but I don’t like using in summer. Call a friend instead of watching Netflix and have a long talk. Just doing a few of these a week makes winter the unique cozy season it is. Simple everyday things. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Why do we use Bicarb in deodorants? The bacteria that live under your arms eat your perspiration. When they do the waste from metabolizing it changes the pH of the area to be more acidic. The odour we all want to avoid occurs when this acidic environment happens. Bicarb prevents this pH shift and so prevents the environment that causes the odour. We tackle the problem from 3 other approaches also but this is the role of the Bicarb.
It’s around this time of year people come to us with dry, itchy and rough patches on their scalp. It’s uncomfortable and annoying we know. You need to apply our HydraLac to the area till it feels wet. Let it sit for a good hour or more. Massage some Hair Oil into the same area. Let sit also for a while then wash as per normal. Repeat over consecutive days till patches have disappeared. Use occasionally when scalp is clear to ensure condition does not reoccur. Ensure shampoos are rinsed thoroughly and reduce hot temperature of shower while washing hair to also reduce the chance of the condition reoccurring.

This was waiting for me when I arrived to open the store this morning. Somebody decided today to contribute to something good, something that makes the world a better place. A person who I didn’t see but was here, caring. We receive many of our bottles back every week. They are cleaned, sterilized and put into our glass storage area for our reuse. It’s a costly and time consuming exercise and at times I’ve thought it’s easier to not do this at all. But, it’s bigger than me having a day full of hard things. In the whole scheme of things it’s really quite easy and if you’ve been a customer with us for some time you’ve likely had a returned bottle. A bottle that didn’t have to travel to be crushed and melted, transported to a factory only to be made into the exact same bottle it was and transported back to me at enormous, huge cost and yet I buy it back for $5 from the factory. It just doesn’t add up. The economic cost is so much lower than the ecological cost. These two bottles though will travel with me 5km and will in a couple of months be in the store again all sparkling and clean. So thankyou whoever this was this morning. We”ll get these ready for re use.
