As a hairdresser, it’s tough having to adapt to different peoples energy all day.

Maybe your first client disclosed their pregnancy after a journey of IVF. Then maybe your next client is recently engaged, she is excited about getting to plan her wedding. Next client walks in and today’s her birthday! You get her a marg and spend the entire appointment laughing and talking about her day. Youe last client of the day walks in and your stomach sinks because you saw a close friend just passed away online. You spend the appointment fairly quiet but listen to her talk about them.

Last client leaves after rebooking and you’re left sitting in your salon chair, salon's a mess, hair needs to be swept, bowls and dishes need to be done. And you feel like all the energy in your body was ripped right out after today, so you sit in the car for a moment of peace before the drive home.

And we do this, day after day after day. ⠀

I LOVE MY JOB. It’s rewarding, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but as an empath I do feel the weight on my shoulders. I care SO deeply for all of my clients!!

This is why I fill my cup on a daily basis. All the self love I can come up with I prioritize, and I don’t apologize for it. Self love and self care look different for everyone, but you know what they look like for me? ⠀

Slow mornings before pilates, coffee with friends. Going for a walk & listening to a personal growth book. Trying new recipes. Booking flight. Spending time at the beach. Lunch dates with Mum. A sauna. Mindless scrolling on Tiktok. Trying to dress cute for work. Live music. Spending time with friends. Wine. Online shopping. Chocolate. ⠀

All of these things FILL my cup, and I'm heavy on the self care, especially this time of year. A reminder to do the same ❤️❤️
