vital.ly Commons | Artificial sweeteners & cardiovascular disease 11/10/2022

Never a better time to ditch the Diet Coke for good.

A new Study has found artificial sweeteners are now clearly linked to increased risk of disease and death from Stroke and Cardio Vascular (Heart) disease. Aspartame (found in almost all diet drinks as well as sweetened yoghurts, medicines for kids and much more) was linked to a 17% increase in stroke, while Sucralose (found in diet drinks, protein powders, jams and other processed foods) was linked to a 40% increase in CVD, including elevated cholesterol.

Yowsers.

If you want to take radical steps to get these problem foods out of your diet - know that you can do it! and if you need help, give us a hoy.

Details in the linked article care of Vital.ly.

West Street Wellbeing is moving!
Our beautiful clinic space on West Street, North Sydney is going to be converted to a residence and West Street Wellbeing has found a new home at a great new location in Crows Nest.
The new space is in Clarke St, Crows Nest in a super convenient spot with great parking and easy access - its going to feel a bit different as you arrive being in a small office building but rest assured it will be brimming with the same beautiful style and good vibes you've come to know and love at West Street.
The fit out on the new space is currently underway and we expect it to be ready to move in sometime around the middle of October.

We'll post some photos of the progress of the new space soon. And we'll make sure everyone knows exactly where they need to be.

For the time being, all appointments are still at West Street.

6 Pregnancy-Safe Core Exercises to Help Prevent Diastasis Recti β€” Livestrong 21/03/2022

Diastasis Recti what is it and how do you
Minimise it?

As your uterus and baby grow during pregnancy, there's more and more pressure pushing on your abdominal wall. This pressure causes the linea alba β€” a line of soft tissue that connects both sides of the re**us abdominis (the "six-pack muscles") and runs right down the center of your stomach β€” to stretch.
When the linea alba stretches, you end up with a gap or separation between the two sides of your re**us abdominis.

6 Pregnancy-Safe Core Exercises to Help Prevent Diastasis Recti β€” Livestrong Some ab separation during pregnancy is inevitable, but doing safe ab exercises to prevent diastasis recti can help you stay strong and relieve low back pain.

I’m always telling patients that a sedentary lifestyle is bad, and to move around as much as possible at work… so I am practicing what I preach!!

Handstands between patients will improve my strength, flexibility, balance, and my core. Plus they are a heap of fun πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

The history of the role of Chinese medicine in inoculation against disease

Several accounts from the 1500s describe smallpox inoculation as practiced in China and India (one is referred to in volume 6 of Joseph Needham's Science and Civilisation in China). Glynn and Glynn, in The Life and Death of Smallpox, note that in the late 1600s Emperor K'ang Hsi, who had survived smallpox as a child, had his children inoculated. That method involved grinding up smallpox scabs and blowing the matter into nostril. Inoculation may also have been practiced by scratching matter from a smallpox sore into the skin. It is difficult to pinpoint when the practice began, as some sources claim dates as early as 200 BCE.
